Government bans export of all cooking oils

NEW DELHI: Union Government has banned export of all cooking oils for a year to improve domestic supplies with effect from Monday.

A statement to this effect was issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade. India's edible oil imports for the month of February rose to 430,992 tonnes from 150,927 tonnes last year even though prices were highly volatile.

India exports some cooking oils like groundnut in small quantities, and is one of the world's leading edible oil buyers.
