I want the names of Karl Rove's "Democrat" friends...
they need to be drummed out of the Party forthwith..

Karl Rove, who has spent his career denigrating Democrats, was on the Fox News set last Monday when he was asked a point-blank question: Should Eliot Spitzer resign?

Pronouncing the situation "very sad," Rove said he wasn't in the business of telling the New York governor what to do. He deflected a question about whether Republicans are held to a different standard than Democrats in sex scandals, saying Spitzer's problem was that he "made his reputation as a prosecutor" whose targets included prostitution rings.

-snip-
"I'll never be able to fully shed it, because I am a partisan," Rove says in an interview. "But I'm doing the best I can to focus on my role in giving insight. . . . I'm not a journalist. I don't spend my days calling people up in the Clinton campaign or the Obama campaign. I've got more experience than the average reporter, I just don't have as much inside information as the average reporter." Still, he adds, "I know it's shocking, but I actually do have Democrat friends."

3. Donna Brazile
Frustrated Democrat Makes Friends in G.O.P.
By KATHARINE Q. SEELYE
Published: February 21, 2003

Two years ago, Donna Brazile, then Al Gore's campaign manager, was engaged in daily combat with Karl Rove, then George W. Bush's top campaign strategist.

Today, they chirpily exchange e-mail, chat on the phone and write letters, indulging in their shared zeal for the inner workings of politics.

''I like her a lot,'' said Mr. Rove, now ensconced in the West Wing as President Bush's chief political adviser.

Ms. Brazile, a committed Democrat who was the first black woman to manage a presidential campaign, has built similar relationships with other Republicans, like Grover Norquist, an influential conservative strategist. And her coziness with them comes as she is deeply frustrated with her own party for what she calls years of taking African-Americans for granted and for failing to organize for elections in a coherent way.

5. Guess Who Said The Following:
Edited on Tue Mar-18-08 08:32 AM by MannyGoldstein
"Hey, you did a marvelous job, it was just marvelous what you did ...I want to get you down to the library. I want to talk politics with you. You just did an incredible job, and I'd like to really get together with you and I think we could have a great conversation."

(Some people say the speaker is a Democrat.)

12. I wasn't surprised when I found the quote in your article.
And this isn't a matter of Republican versus Democrat. Anyone who would employ these tactics against any opponent is amoral. Anyone employing these tactics against someone within their own party has no conscience.

I have no respect for anyone who embraces these people. None.

8. Yes, DLC. Donna Milquetoast. Or maybe that was in the past - it appears
Edited on Tue Mar-18-08 08:49 AM by higher class
she is more Republican now. Always invited on the corporations networks as a spokesperson for the Dems, she was as acquiesing as they come. Her main goal - to get invited back - or so it appeared to me.

There is no thunder for the values others have - to stand up against them.

I had not read the above stuff and it appears to fit.

Sad.

She has had too many years of misrepresenting me.

9. Ted Kennedy is good friends with Orrin Hatch
and Ronald Reagan and Tip O'Neil were friends.

I know DUers don't understand, but professional politicos don't take everything as personally as people here do. Yes, Republicans and Democrats can be friends, while still fiercely opposing each other.

The notion that people need to be purged from the party because of their friendships is ridiculous.

11. I second that.
What sad, pathetic lives those people must live who surround themselves only with 100% like-minded acquaintances and shun those who don't think exactly like they do. Usually though you find them living in rural dug-outs in Idaho, not on progressive internet message boards.

17. It's not a matter of "friendship".
No one on earth could ever suspect that Reagan and O'Neil were covert allies.

But when Dems enable and support republican initiatives, refuse to support what the Democratic base is calling for, refuse to attack republicans and praise republicans over fellow democrats, THAT goes way beyond professional courtesy or even friendship.

I don't think Orrin Hatch or Ronald Reagan ever actually set out to destroy the Democratic Party.

14. "Democrat party' is a phrase used as an insult
so by saying 'Democrat friends' he is insulting people he claims to have a relationship with. I want to know who these enablers are so I can disregard anything they say. If I were a party leader, they would not be allowed any inside info, as they would run and tell Karl all about it.
