UVa law student speaks for 'silent majority'
Source: The Daily Progress (Charlottesville, Va.)

When President Richard Nixon addressed a fractured and embittered nation in November 1969 about the United State’s action in Vietnam, he rallied the war’s supporters by addressing part of his remarks to America’s "silent majority."

Now, with the next presidential election around the corner, Josh Levy, a third-year University of Virginia law school student, believes it is critical to speak to what he views as America’s new "silent majority": those who support or could be persuaded that it is in America’s best interest to achieve what Levy and others view as victory in Iraq. Levy organized a "pro-victory" rally in July, when anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan came to Charlottesville, and is thinking about starting a citizens advocacy group to argue, in part, that withdrawal now would mean "retreat."

But he knows that time is of the essence.

Levy concedes that President Bush has mishandled running the war. "You cannot be entirely happy with what President Bush has done and is doing," he said. But that’s no reason, he said, to get out of what he views as a central battleground in the broader war on terrorism.

2. Yeah. Real silent majority
Almost every poll out there shows that people are fed up with the war and wants us out. So the conclusion one has to draw is that the "Silent Majority" is really silent. And not a majority at all.

3. Supports the War
And yet at 34, still of age to enlist he continues his college education. Maybe Mr. Levy should put up or shut up!

But 34?????

He should know better. But good luck to him in his quest to unite both sides of the argument, as he claims he wants his group to do.

4. There was a silent majority in Nixon's era
that were unhappy with what they saw as their hard earned money going to slatterns in the inner city (read: black folks), with the war, and especially with the scruffy kids on drugs who were against the war, a miracle of doublethink.

Right now, there is a silent majority, too. They're unhappy about the war, fearful about their jobs and offshoring, angry at all the legal and illegal immigrants driving their wages down, and furious at all the lying the current government has done about the inflation they see every day.

Conservatives are universally tone deaf. They've completely missed the silent majority this time.

5. Methinks Josh Levy is a dumb fuck.
This whole war-occupation of Iraq was based on LIES - and because of that, it was lost before it even started.

6. The "silent majority" want out of Iraq
Every single poll shows that.

The pro-war group had a rally in Washington, D.C. last week and only a couple of hundred people showed up. An impromptu anti-war rally had over a thousand people.

8. I have a feeling that enlistment forms are like kyptonite to Mr. Levy.
"We, and by "we" I mean 'someone who is not me,' must fight and win this war!"

10. Not just corrupt enough to parrot the neocons...
...but enough of an idiot to try to justify himself with a Vietnam analogy.

That's pretty freakin' stupid.

17. Rather, an increasingly-silent minority.
And even this guy doesn't approve of Dubya's handling of the war. So Dubya's approval rating is down to 18% -- I tell you, he's down to the seeds and stems, now.
