Dems seize on McCain's Iran gaffe
Dems seize on McCain's Iran gaffe
Posted: 05:27 PM ET

(CNN) – The Democratic National Committee seized on John McCain's apparent gaffe while discussing Iran earlier Tuesday, saying it raises questions whether the Arizona senator "can be trusted to offer a clear way forward."

The misstep in question occurred during a news conference in Jordan earlier Tuesday, when the presumptive Republican presidential nominee repeatedly said Iran was supplying al Qaeda. Iran is predominately a Shiite country and is not aiding the Sunni dominated Al-Qaeda.

McCain ultimately corrected himself after Sen. Joe Lieberman whispered in his ear.

"I'm sorry, the Iranians are training extremists, not al Qaeda. I am sorry, I am sorry," the Arizona senator said.

DNC spokeswoman Karen Finney quickly pounced on the misstep.

"After eight years of the Bush Administration's incompetence in Iraq, McCain's comments don't give the American people a reason to believe that he can be trusted to offer a clear way forward," she said. "Not only is Senator McCain wrong on Iraq once again, but he showed he either doesn't understand the challenges facing Iraq and the region or is willing to ignore the facts on the ground."

14. agreed ...
... and it shows just how feeble-minded McCain really is. His advisors have been propping him up by arranging these fake shows of 'vitality', but in reality I think he's spent. I think he's a bitter old war-monger, who is incapable of grasping any nuance in foreign policy, just pushing violence in this 'us-against-them' mode. It's scary to think he could get his finger on the buttons.

3. McCain = Bush
I think they are both intellectually lazy. They both surround themselves with yes men to validate their own limited perceptions of the world.

I hope the Dems continue to drive home the fact that McCain will bring another 4 years of the same failed Bush policies.

5. That's why he has Holy Joe with him--Joe is running his foreign policy, apparently.
McCain doesn't honestly seem to know his ass from a hole in the ground--why is anyone afraid of this man?

6. I cannot fucki*g stand headlines like that. They take an issue, sideline it
and instead pretend that the issue to be discussed is the "Dems siezing" on the gaffe, not the fact that Dumb and Dumber go to Arabia and look like they belong on the short bus.

" . . . this has not been verified in any way, and I'm not reporting it as fact, without first conducting a full investigation . . . it has also been said on at least one other prominent site that he eats transformers, and then poops them out of his butt as little robots. Can we afford to elect a President that poops transformer robots all over the white house? . . . . a prudent reader might wonder what else might be out there.

"You don't have to be left, you don't have to be right, to know that a 200 year old President that poops robots, and lives off of the blood of young blond lobbyists, is not a President that this country needs."

10. I hate that word, gaffe..
It implies that he made some elderly and insignificant mistake.. To me, a gaffe is calling your wife or kids by the wrong name... Inaccurately claiming Al Qaeda is in Iran is LYING, plain and simple. I've seen nothing but a few minutes mention of this all day on the cables. Either McCain is flat out lying, or he is old and confused. Whichever it is, do you really want McSame as prez?

11. We're sorry too, Senator...
"I'm sorry, the Iranians are training extremists, not al Qaeda. I am sorry, I am sorry," the Arizona senator said.

More than you can imagine... :grr:

Now, stop pretending to be presidential material.

13. Rachel Maddow pointed out that this is the ***third*** time this week for this 'gaffe'
That wasn't a mistake. Once is a mistake ..... three times? Not so much.

That was evidence that McCain is unstable and perhaps suffering early dementia.

15. MCSame was 5th from the bottom of his Naval Acadamy Class.
He is proud of his ranking. Just as Busholini brags about his C Ave. in all of his Univ. studies.
Go figure. :eyes:
