Where do we go if it's McCain (winning the presidency)?
Edited on Tue Mar-18-08 06:28 PM by mmonk
Given that the democratic congress has not shown a strong enough propensity to defend the US constitution, what do we as citizens and democrats do next?

dense. I have trouble even accepting or imagining that obscene scenario. But speaking just as an individual, at that point I will probably just give up altogether and check myself into a mental institution, or else find a cabin in the woods and hide out, or just slowly melt away in despair.

5. Move to Canada.
I don't care what I have to do to gain the Canadian government's permission to enter, either. I have had enough. I really do believe this is our last chance.

28. You can't afford Vancouver anymore.
Not only is the American Dollar crashing relative to the
Loonie, but Vancouver real-estate prices are through the
roof as they prepare for the 2010 Olympics.

We'd be there if we could, but I don't think we can :( .

Hopefully the Tories will get voted out of office soon though.

14. If McCain Wins I Suppose You Could Run And Hide
Edited on Tue Mar-18-08 10:16 PM by Better Believe It
If McCain becomes President we need to do what we failed to do under 4 years of Bush .... organize mass united movements raising specific issues and demands on the corporate rulers and their political whores who can be found in both major parties.

That's what working class people did when the labor movement was organized in the 30's and 40's, what the civil rights movement did in the 50's and 60's and what the anti-Vietnam war movement, women's movement, Latino movement and gay movements did in later years.

We have real movements with real power. Where are they now?

There hasn't been much in the way of mass movements for the past few decades. People allegedly got "tired of marching" and became almost totally dependent on progressive politicians to make the kinds of changes we need. We haven't accomplished very much with this dependency on the small minority of progressive politicians. They can't get anything done. They remain as isolated as ever while the majority who represent corporate American take them and most of us for granted. After all .... right now we have nowhere else to go politically .... isn't that right?

No those who don't have the stomach and/or ability to fight our enemies can of course flee to Canada or some other country. Leave the heavy lifting to the rest of us .... and when we succeed you can applaud our efforts .... but please .... don't come back.

We got a deal?

17. If McCain is elected, he's highly likely to be a one termer
age, temperment, national mood.

I honestly don't think he will be elected. One great dividend of the Obama v. Clinton deathmatch is that it's serving as an excellent vetting process. I think whoever emerges will be tough enough to deal with whatever McCain dishes out.

20. We need to elect a new Congress
The only way to stop the next renegade president is to elect a new Congress that will value the Constitution and stop funding the illegal immoral war of error. We cannot just wait and hope things will be better. We need new Democrats, maybe someone here at DU, to run for office. We need activists to work and support new Democrats.
