Welcome to Oklahoma, where Westboro Baptist Church is a war protest organization.

2. I may have to pour bleach in my eyes after reading this ...
"Ray Adam Modisette, 20, said he was reacting to a war protester who was stuffing an American flag down her pants."

Having seen members of Phelps inbred little clan up close, I'm guessing that's about the only way she could get a big butch Marine anywhere near her pants. Heck, I'd bet those Phelps "women" couldn't even attract a dog if they dumped Alpo down their pants.

3. Phelps is despicable, but this Marine should have been charged if the
prosecutor really believes there are legal grounds. The fact the the police really don't like these protesters and hated to take action is kind of a scary reason for a prosecutor to decline charges, IMO...

4. Westboro is a special test
of the 'fighting words' concept.

I have seen them in action quite a bit, and
I have something almost like admiration for
their ability as equal opportunity offenders.

I love the video where they have to flee a spontaneous mob
of angry onlookers.

5. What Am I Missing? Since When Does WBC Protest the War?
Their kick is saying America is doomed to hell for letting homosexuals live. They protested at the funerals of gay people, but when they found out straight America didn't care about gays, they started protesting at military funerals, which got them tons more press and outrage. Seems to me they'd be the last people protesting the war: it's their bread and butter.

6. Since it is media in a deep red state
it is difficult for them to call them anti-don't ask don't
tell protesters-- or even the more succinct term 'hateful religious freaks'.
