What's wrong with this picture?

Nothing. This is not a car wash selling gas. These are actual prices at a typical gas station, Fairfax and Melrose, Los Angeles. Taken this evening. Gas prices average $3.70 for "regular" unleaded, but this takes the cake.

1. Where the Hell does Prena gas come from? I'm in L.A. also.

I haven't seen Prena gas, but I am boycotting the larger gas chains.

...so I know prices out there are usually higher than the rest of the country, but that's obscene!

BTW, anyone who buys the Premium Unleadeds: it's a waste of money unless your car is specifically designed for higher octane gas (then you should use it; check your manual), or you have an older car with engine knocking. In that case, a tuneup would probably be less expensive in the long run. Most cars are designed for low octane (Regular) fuel.

Higher octane gas doesn't appreciably improve your car's mileage or performance if it's built to take regular. You're just throwing your money away.

Some other tips:

Keep your fuel injectors clean, and your sparkplugs maintained. Sparkplugs have to be replaced (you can easily do this yourself), and you can clean your fuel injection system with additives available at your local gas station!


Get your regular oil changes... less friction = less energy lost.

Forget worrying about driving with the window down... that doesn't mean much really. But do your best not to speed. Speeding is a gas mileage killer!

Oh and most importantly... try not owning a v8 truck ;) That helps THE MOST!!!!!!!!!
