Gas prices gouge eating, shopping habits, too
Americans cutting back on other expenses to keep tanks full

We would not be in this position if the Clinton administration had added $1 per gallon gas tax ten years ago because the highway fleet would be more fuel efficient. Instead we have overcrowed highways with oversize vehicles.
Politicians suck as bad as corporate CEOs, who sit on each others board of directors giving each other massive compensation packages regardless of their failed leadership. At least we can vote politicians out of office, but we are stuck with CEOs. Maybe we need a new law where the workers can vote on their CEO every four years.

1. A $1 a gallon gas tax is about as popular as mandatory herpes. Good luck passing it.

2. Most of them will tell you it's those liberal environmentalists fault.
It's the liberals fault that oil companies can't build more refineries. We should drill for more oil in Alaska, but again, it's those damn liberal environmentalists fault that we're not doing it.

When you tell them we already have enough refineries, they look at you with a blank stare. When you tell them the FREE OIL being drilled off of PUBLIC LAND in Alaska right now is all going overseas and with no payment to us, they look at you with a blank stare.

3. Which is exactly why gas prices stayed fairly consistent in the 90's
and have tripled since Shrub took office right?

4. I'm an owner operator truck driver
It sux out here. I rebuilt my engine in June in my Peterbilt. I am sure glad I made it lower compression, cammed it to find its horses an low rpm. Im now gettng 6.8 - 7.2 mpg. Versus 4.7 - 5.5 mpg. Why do u ask, i'm tellin y'all. Cuz it aint enuff. Our rates for haulin freight is not getting any where near the prices of Fuel. These big CEO/CFO run companies are now beginning to feel the pinch, BUT I think they will try to force us O/O out before they make changes. The chatter on Channel 19 on our CB's call for a strike on April First, (April Fools Day). It getting tougher to make a buck out here!!

5. My hubby was an O/O
Sold the truck because fuel prices were kicking our asses. Doing local runs now and home most nights. Less money, but less stress, too.

I'll be shocked if the truckers on the road can get it together enough to strike. Plus, striking for only a day will make little to no impact.

8. I'm midwest company driver and I hear about the strike on April first
too on the CB. I hope it happens, but I'm not holding my breath. Someone needs to lead and be the spokesman for it to be pulled off. Higher fuel costs are not helping me to get a raise from my employer. If we did shut down the trucks, they would have to lower the fuel prices.

11. I should ask my brother about this, even though he drives for Eagle
Which is a big fuel delivery company that pays for the fuel used, not the drivers. I dont know if they use CB's though. They were using those walkie-talkie type of phones but now the drivers are using computers. So when the bosses at the loading terminal need to tell the driver something, they do it by e-mail.

12. You mean qualcomm?
It's a lot cheaper and more convenient for both drivers and dispatchers. Most still keep their CB's to communicate with other drivers out on the road. That'll probably never change.

13. Yeah thats what it is!
My bro said he would like to use the CB again, but theirs really no need for it with what he does.

14. My dad ( Richard Steele Sr.) is an old O/O from way back...
He did well hauling construction lumber midrange down the East Coast
during the late '90s, and he had more runs than a chihuahua with
a taste for Ex-Lax...

But these days, he's losing money on the one or two runs a week
that come his way.

There just ain't no way a nation can function while bankrupting
the folks who haul things from place to place. That just doesn't work.
A whole lot of shit is on the verge of grinding to a halt: we're
staring "Great Depression II" right in the face.

9. He said he would tell his saudi buddies to turn on their spigots. Instead
they gave him an excuse (9-11)to go to war with a country that was sitting on one of the lagest oil fields in the world. Shortly after the war started, the price of gas skyrocketed!

10. Didn't * get rid of the fuel mileage standards when he got into office?
That plus the oil companies have not been supporting gas efficiency.
