Why Do Bigoted Non-Black Pastors Get a Free Pass from the Media?
A couple big reasons:
1. The fact is that the sectarian right has been around for over 30 years. They are media-savvy. Pretty much the case has been that any journalist who criticized Pat Robertson or the late jerry Falwell could expect to be branded a "Christian-basher" or someone who wants to oppress "people of faith." In essence, the sectarian right wants it both ways: they want to play hardball politics (remember Ralph Reed talking about putting political opponents in "body bags"?) yet whenever anyone calls them on their bigotry, support of Latin American death squads, etc., they cry foul and act as if the criticism is an attack on Christianity in general. The most recent post on my main blog addresses this further and also has a link to the Hannity & Colmes video in which Hannity is confronted about his links to violent white nationalist Hal Turner.
2. They are part of the media. Sun Myung Moon owns the Washington Times and the UPI wire service. It takes a lot of guts to take on someone who buys their ink by the gallon. Read more about this on the Sun Myung moon blog and in John Gorenfeld's new book Bad Moon Rising.

1. Need you even ask?
Racism is alive and well in this country, contrary to what Limpbags and his dittoheads may claim.

5. I think it's more complicated than you think
Sure, there is the issue of racism. No disagreement there. However, we have to look at the issue of media. For too long, the left has ignored the media while the right has become media-savvy, bought media outlets, and created front groups and organizations that manipulate the media. They have a big headstart but fortunately with groups like Media Matters, progressives are catching up.
