The reality is alot of us (myself included) are not too informed about civics or politics. In hte last few years I have become pretty informed (usually score very highly on political aptitude tests) and as a result I feel I am able to make far better decisions on politics since I understand much more than 3-4 years ago. So I have an idea. Every year have a civics test of 1,000 possible questions. The questions and answers are given ahead of time with a description of why the answers are correct. The actual test consists of 300 questions lifted from these 1,000. The question are multiple choice and would be questions like
How much does the US spend annually on social security
Where is Iraq on a map of the middle east
What percentage of income does the average middle class family pay in taxes
How long do senators serve between elections
What percentage of GDP is spent on humanitarian aid
Things like that. You get the test online and it is open book, and for every question you get right you get a $1 tax credit, up to $300. It sounds like it would get people more interested in civics, and more informed about the issues so they will vote accordingly.
