It's clear given how many times and when this happened that the GOP was in some way trying to gather information on a major Democratic candidate. Why and who? those are the questions. I'm an Obama supporter but if this were something happening to Sen. Clinton I would be equally outraged. Don't forget this happened to Bill Clinton too in '92 by the first Bush administration.

Condi and Bush both have some explaining to do.

2. I'm a Hillary supporter and I agree this is an outrage
it needs to be completely investigated and prosecuted, and by Congress if necessary. No stone should be left unturned and we need to know every last detail including who did it, who put them up to it and why.

3. Agreed.
Although I am fascinated by the timing. One poll comes out with Obama losing ground and WHAM! He's the victim of Republican persecution. Amazing and quite interesting coincidence.

11. The Obama office just found out today they should have learned weeks ago.
that's one of the things that has to be investigated is why the GOP tried to cover this up.

14. Could have been Mitt Romney ...
and I would still be incensed! There is no excuse for multiple violations of security being ignored. It reeks of willful negligence. Sounds like someone's worried about Sen. Obama's chances.

I'm also wondering what company they were contracting for.

19. Does that mean you believe there is incriminating evidence in the file?
(Or something else that would make the election easier to steal?)

22. At this time, very few people know what is in that file.
Edited on Thu Mar-20-08 08:33 PM by Buzz Clik
However, one just doesn't happen to browse through files while breaking the law just for fun.

I believe that whoever did this had a specific purpose, even if that purpose was simply fishing for something ... anything. A visit to a Muslim country; a meeting with controversial figure; who knows.

I do know that this is a typical tactic taken when power is unchecked. Thank God the entire system has not failed us.

23. I can't seem to get my point across here. I am VERY concerned
(there's that goddamn word again) about the fact that somebody screwed around with the files...I am NOT worried about them finding anything that will actually be useful for nefarious purposes!

Is that better? :D

Lightly . Someone has access that should not have , for my dime I would suspect almost anyone for many reasons and that's the scary part .

This is well before all the stuff spilled out about Wright . Didn't the media know yet hold off on Wright just as this has happened .

25. I worked 15 years with secure files. There is NO EXCUSE for this.
First off. There are some very stringent rules and regulations regarding secure files. Anyone employed anywhere near them is told up front that to access them without AUTHORIZATION means immediate dismissal and possibly even criminal charges being filed. Since 3 different people accessed these files over 3 months, it makes me wonder if payment was enough to counter the loss of a job? If, as being reported, the alarm was triggered for all breaches, why was nothing done about it? Why was Obama not notified immediatly so he could take the appropriate actions to protect himself? Before accessing a file, the person has to have authorization, they have to sign in in a log, they have to list date, time, who authorized, and reason. When they leave the file, they have to sign out in said log. So this flagrant disregard for security is more than outrageous. It is totally uncalled for. It speaks of a total disregard for rules, regulations and the security of the country and the people in it that they are sworn to protect.
