Just when I think I've seen it all....

http://www.ucc.org/news/lieberman-questions-why-irs-is.html

The Associated Press is reporting that U.S. Senator Joe Lieberman of Connecticut is questioning the Internal Revenue Service's investigation of the United Church of Christ.

The IRS is investigating the church for a speech Sen. Barack Obama gave at the denomination's national meeting last year in Hartford after he began his Democratic presidential campaign.

Lieberman told the IRS in a letter that he's "concerned about the chilling effect on legitimate activity by religious organizations," the AP reported today (March 20).

He calls the inquiry "especially troubling'' because the agency hasn't given churches adequate guidance about what's allowed.

1. Well Lieberman
has always been trying to bring faith into politics. I guess he's just consistent on this.

4. Remember, Joe is more Moral Majority than Democrat now
He's probably concerned that a Democratic President could use the same IRS precedent against the church's that support the far right in the future.

5. He's stepping back into Weathervane mode
After all, he's got to make the *great unwashed masses* thinks he CARES about them - so he can slide into the VP slot with Doddering McSlobber on the GOP ticket. :sarcasm:

8. They're BOTH too damn old.
Anyone else get the creeps just seeing them together? Any intelligent Republic would have called the campaign and told them McSame looks like an idiot with Lie-berman propping him up and whispering in his ear every five minutes to correct his senile ramblings.

I can't stand the man, but he's calling this one right - what does a speech at a conference have to do with their tax-exempt status? This is (another) clumsy political hit on behalf of the malAdministration.

However, given Lie-berman's track record, I doubt he'll exert himself over the issue. He's a sound-bite, crowd pleaser kind of guy and his outrage probably lasted only until the cameras were turned off.

The best we and the people of CT can hope for is his retirement if McInsane chooses him for the VP slot and that the people of CT have learned their lesson. I realize it's a novel idea, but not a bad idea to actually check out the people you're sending to DC to represent you.
