FBI sting to catch bank robbers described as entrapment
Edited on Fri Mar-21-08 11:16 AM by lumberjack_jeff
Today, the FBI announced a major new initiative to catch bank robbers. By leaving a trail of $20 bills leading to the propped-open front doors of the ordinarily closed first national bank branch in Podunk, the FBI was able to 'clean the streets of Podunk's most hardened criminals'.

The spokesman for the agency, Dewey Cheatham said "We've been criticized for excessive zeal in similar small towns across america, but Podunk's 1,350 residents are breathing a sigh of relief that we've taken the 1,345 worst offenders from their midst."

It was difficult to find any residents of Podunk to comment on the police action except for Martin Smelworth, local night watchman who asked us if we'd seen his family. "I came home from work guarding the lumberyard and everyone was gone!"

Critics of the program described it as entrapment. Mary Worth, spokesperson for the ACLU noted that the trail of $20 bills led to the door of each residence in town. FBI agents would knock on suspect's door, and hide in nearby bushes.

Former FBI analyst pleads guilty to spying

By JEFFREY GOLD
ASSOCIATED PRESS WRITER

NEWARK, N.J. -- A former White House and FBI staffer pleaded guilty Thursday to passing classified information to plotters he said were trying to overthrow Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

During a federal court hearing, the former intelligence analyst, Leandro Aragoncillo, outlined five years of efforts to pass top secret and secret information. He worked as a military aide to vice presidents Al Gore and Dick Cheney, and later became a civilian employee of the FBI.

Aragoncillo, 47, did not identify by name the current and former Philippine officials to whom he gave secrets except for ex-Philippine police official Michael Ray Aquino, who was arrested with him in September.

Aquino is accused of passing information from Aragoncillo about Filipino leaders to current and former officials of that nation.
