When the pain gets too much, focus on your breath. I've found that focusing on the outbreath and to the left, visualizing the pain "spilling out" of you can help ease it. (Yeah, some will say it is "woo-woo" but it doesn't cost a cent to try it, and the worst that can happen is that it won't help.)
