Please support Kleeb. Raimondo only changed parties a few months ago when the R party said your not wanted to run for US Senate.

Senate hopefuls Kleeb, Raimondo agree to debate

Democratic U.S. Senate hopefuls Scott Kleeb and Tony Raimondo have agreed to debate before the May 13 primary. But the question of when remains up in the air.

The Lancaster County Democratic Party, which plans to sponsor the debate, suggested April 12.

Raimondo, a Columbus businessman, agreed to that date. Kleeb, a Hastings college professor, said further details needed to be ironed out.

"The primary issue, as I understand it, is finding a suitable date and format," Vic Covalt of the Lancaster County Democratic Party said Monday.

The winner of the Democratic primary is expected to face Republican Mike Johanns, a former governor and former U.S. agriculture secretary, in the fall. Two-term incumbent Republican Sen. Chuck Hagel is not seeking re-election.

This is the first time in three decades that Nebraska Democrats have two strong Senate candidates battling it out in a primary. The last hotly contested Democratic Senate primary was in 1976, when Ed Zorinsky defeated Hess Dyas.
