If you want to try some good PR and not have everyone boycott your Olympics after violently you crack down on the people of Tibet.
Don't beat up the Dali Lama and blame everything on him.
He's sorta loved and respected around the world.

1. most likely, they will just try to have him expire....

it is kind of suprising, if not outright mystifying, that the Chinese haven't gotten the Dali out of the picture after so long a period...

how the hell can a powerful country totally demonize such a person...?

2. If anything happens to the Dalai Lama, the Olympics are TOAST

RatBastard may still show his sorry face, but there are plenty of world
leaders whose countries aren't in debt up to their heads to the Chinese
who won't set foot in that country if any harm comes to the Dalai Lama
just so Beijing can have its shiny, happy, plastic Olympics.

3. I don't think

the Chinese will physically harm the Dali. They are just trying to blame the Tibetan uprising on him. To take the focus off their oppression. It is a stupid and misguided tactic which I hope will back fire on them.
