On the Frontline story on the Bush War - comment on Condi
what an excellent show.
But there was one line that struck me as really funny or odd or very telling.
In discussing how the people around Bush stood in the pecking order. The narrator made a comment about Powell, Cheney and Rummy, their experience, their egos and their particular agendas. Then the comment shifted to Condi and how she tried to hold her own with these people. The comment was something like "but Condi Rice had an extremely close personal relationship with the President."

Gee, just imagine if a vigilant press delved into that relationship. Like if the pres was named Clinton.

2. Ya gotta wonder...
who pays for all those shoes ;-)

I thought the show was very good, as well.

What really stood out to me was the segment where they showed Cheney and the others (on 9/11) in the bunker when they were "watching the towers fall" on television - did you happen to see the bored look on Cheney's face? Quite a contrast to the wide-eyed woman sitting next to him who hand her hands to her mouth in horror.

15. I saw it differently, she came off as peevish and petty--unwilling to confront players to their face
instead whining to daddy bush about turf and only taking a policy position when the obvious was slapping her in the face or when her turf was at issue.

she was all too willing to give up turf -- when someone else had to make a tough decision.

4. There are going to be a lot of books - if the people have any money
left from Bears-Stern, the war, Enron, embroidered $40.00 towels from KBR, off shore, tax free, legislation free corporations and an FDA owned by lobbyists, etc. etc. etc.

There will all kinds of stuff coming out about the relationships between these criminals.

Let us please get them out of there - our kids are at risk with them.

We may not be strong enough emotionally and monetarily to know more about scum. And I include Powell. Sorry to the Powell lovers.

These people are the earth killers.

11. Powell's outrage at being made to look bad
is more sincere than any contriteness he may ever express over being the 'good soldier', 'sucking it up' and proceeding to deliberately lie to the world. I doubt we would be enlightened by him about the lies if they hadn't been independently exposed. And being the 'good soldier' is also a lie. It's an excuse he uses trying to get all that respect back. The respect he took full advantage of to frigging take us to a war he knew was criminal. He's getting off easy and he probably knows it. He bailed out only when it was obvious that it would hurt his reputation and his so-called 'legacy'.

8. I took note of that comment, too. I think that's just the way it was phrased..
Extremely close? Personal? Hmm...

9. Considering how well produced Frontline is, I think they meant to
convey a certain message with those words.

13. Condi is just one of Bush's protective women
He really seems to have an effect on strong and otherwise intelligent women, which is an argument about the illogic of falling in love. Bush's women are probably literally 'in love' with him, in the sense of smitten, head over heels, infatuated, puppy love crush. Examples: Myers, Karen Hughes, Condi and now Dana Perino (although Perino's intelligence is questionable). Even Laura seems to see few defects in him.

These women all go way out of their way to protect him, to make excuses for him, to justify his every action. Occasionally photographers have caught them in moments of watching him like hawks when he speaks publicly (kind of like a mom watching her grade school kid speaking publicly for the first time - a mixture of concentrated nervousness and protective angst, hoping the kid will shine yet ready to catch him if he falters). There are dozens of photos of them gazing at him in utter adoration - and vice versa. And every single one of them has done their march out to make the public rounds to help him when he's in trouble.

Maybe they're leaving that thought unexplored so as not to be found to be obfuscating when future disclosures might come to light. After all, the series was about Bush's war, not Bush's women.
