Poll question: I Am The MSM, and I don't Care What You Want To Learn About
Edited on Wed Feb-28-07 12:03 AM by MoseyWalker
I will feed you blondes who have disappeared, or god forbid, died, and I will do worse.

I will talk incessantly about rumors that surround dem candidates because they are just so damn interesting.

I will spew the latest and greatest terrorism fears as long and in as many ways as I possibly can.

I will never, and I mean never, discuss the truth.

Never.

1.  This thread reminds me of something Frank Zappa wrote:
"Slime"

I am gross and perverted
I'm obsessed 'n deranged
I have existed for years
But very little has changed
I'm the tool of the Government
And industry too
For I am destined to rule
And regulate you

I may be vile and pernicious
But you can't look away
I make you think I'm delicious
With the stuff that I say
I'm the best you can get
Have you guessed me yet?
I'm the slime oozin' out
From your TV set

You will obey me while I lead you
And eat the garbage that I feed you
Until the day that we don't need you
Don't go for help . . . no one will heed you
Your mind is totally controlled
It has been stuffed into my mold
And you will do as you are told
Until the rights to you are sold

That's right, folks . . .
Don't touch that dial

Well, I am the slime from your video
Oozin' along on your livin' room floor

I am the slime from your video
Can't stop the slime, people, lookit me go

I am the slime from your video
Oozin' along on your livin' room floor

I am the slime from your video
Can't stop the slime, people, lookit me go

Don't have a TV. I've got the Internet. For what do I need the MSM?
The government supplies me with my daily dietary supplement of BLEEDING BARE-FACED LIES...
why do I need more? :nuke:

4. Here's my theory
I used to think the media was just full of vapid, shallow actor wannabes who could't care less about the institution of journalism. Sadly, I do think that's mostly true nowadays with respect to the big guys, but it wasn't always this way. As recently as a decade ago there were still people who believed in journalism and pushed for it from within. But, the public doesn't want actual news. They want fluffy happy, shiny, irrelavant nonsense. There are on the typical local news, maybe 4 minutes of actual news, and this is usually murders, or something dramatic rather than important but which can't easily be conveyed with pictures. The rest is restaurant reviews, sports, weather and a special report on how your hot water heater is going to KILL you. Then, a furry puppy to kiss you goodnight.

In Chicago, in the 90's, an experiment was tried. The CBS channel hired one of the finest TV journalists Carol Marin to do it's local broadcast. It was different in that it did't focus so much on sensational, it followed up on stories it had run previously,etc.-things that come closer to real news. It came in dead last. People say in public they want substance, but when they're in their jammies, and no one can see-they change the channel until Britney shows up. Bastards.

5. Did you see the John Gibson quote from yesterday?
Edited on Wed Feb-28-07 12:27 AM by walldude
About how anyone who doesn't report on Anna Nicol Smith is a "news snob"? Here's the actual quote from www.newshounds.us

"Now I submit to you that that is a real, honest-to-god drama. Now it may not fit the high-minded views of a lot of news professionals, people who think that, you know, their, their news program is just another part of Foreign Affairs Quarterly. That only certain kind of news is worthy of their discussing. Those people are snobs. They’re people who, who, when they see a story, go, “Ew, icky. I don’t want to do that.” I did this for years. You know, I’ve been doing this for a long time. I’ve approached many stories and said, “That story isn’t worth our trouble.” It has always been a mistake. Always. Every single time I did it. And so when I see people like this guy — (Anderson Cooper)

"There’s a war on, there’s a war on, there’s a war on."

(Gibson, sarcastically) "Oh, there’s a war on, there’s a war on. Maybe, just maybe, people are a little weary, Mr. Cooper, of your war coverage, and they’d like a little something else. Maybe that’s why they all thundered to this story.

"There’s a war on, there’s a war on, there’s a war on."
