Don't worry, I am not going to keep this up. Just wanted to put an exclamation point on how infuriated I was over all the hoopla in every news outlet over hitting 4000, but nary a murmer about # 3993, 3994, 3995 and now 4001, 4002, 4003...

oh, it was two killed today in Baghdad by small arms fire. One said "eastern part" so probably near Sadr City.

Let's hope the offensive against Sadr does not result in double-digit numbers in the next few days.

6. No they aren't...my sig pic said 4001 until late this afternoon. Now it says 4003.

Pending means they have not been added to the total yet.

7. There were two killed this afternoon

They are in the 4003. Their names are not released. The names of the four killed on Sunday who took it from 3996 to 4000 have not been released. I got three of them, but the DoD has not officially named them. One was killed on the 25th, making 4001. Name not yet released.

Trust me, I track this daily, and I know what numbers iCasualties counts where. I have them all in a database to generate my website. Look about halfway down the icasualties page:

and you'll see six who the DoD is quibbling over whether to count. Then there are the four MIA.

But those were there before the big hoorah over "4000." The four on sunday are in the 4000; the one yesterday and two today are what makes that particular meaningless number now be "4003"
