Argue Against This
Come on DUers, let's put our vast rhetorical skills to good use:

We know the GOP is going to deflect blame for their poor economy onto Democrats.

We know it's coming.

So, why don't we figure out the best way to debunk it, so even a fundie can understand it!

Please post your ideas in reply.

1. The GOP controlled the executive, legislative & judicial branches, plus...
...the media and most corporations are controlled by conservatives.

You cant screw up what you dont control.

2. Not an idea to debunk it, just want to say that the time is now to
start to hit the GOP hard about all their failed policies, thats the best way to get votes also.

4. I agree.
But, we have to be smart about how we "hit them".

3. Don't defend, attack attack attack on this issue
People naturally believe that the President is all-powerful. The more discussion there is about the role of a Pelosi-led Congress in destroying the economy, the more people will believe it's true. So don't even talk about it. Just attack the fiscal asininity of the Bush regime. And the blame the war, even if it isn't true (as Krugman argued recently). People know what the bills for that are stacking up to be, and they will believe you.

5. No one is saying defend.
We need to have ideas about how best to counter their lies.

10. I guess my question is...
...attack them with what?

I'm asking for specific weapons to use against them.

We know they're not going to take responsibility for what they've done.

How exactly will we counter their lies?

11. Talk about the war driving the country to financial ruin
I'm not a wonk on mortgage etc. policies but I'm sure there's plenty of ammo there. Also, tax cuts for the rich didn't stimulate the economy, and that's still all they have to offer. I'm not worried about losing the fight on this issue!

12. Nice!
They chose war at the expense of everything else.

Money for never-ending war, while bridges are falling down, cities are flooded, banks going under.

6. THEY put a pathetic loser in the White House.

WTF would any rational human being expect if you put an imbecile in charge of the greatest nation on earth?

It's only logical to conclude that nation won't be the greatest for very long.

9. But will that work to convince GOPers?
We know he's an embarrassment, but they think he's Jesus come back to life!

And, he's not running; McCain is. And so are all those other republicans.

Oh, and I see your dancing Rush...

7. eight years of enormous deficits
spending like a drunken sailor while cutting taxes - they bankrupted the country for decades

all that money spent on Iraq eclipses the piddly expenditures progressives might have made on behalf of our people

spending on projects in this country - bridges, roads, schools - would have boosted the economy

but they just took the country's savings and blew it up.

nothing can change that. They were like a gambler losing the family farm in a crap game.

and they shot craps.

NO WAY to blame anyone else - it was uncle george and uncle dick, those two wild and crazy guys, who blew the bank. Period. End of discussion.

13. Love the imagery!
Drunken sailor!

Although, some may say that is not supporting the troops.
