How will creationist freaks explain this...
snip:
The researchers said the fossil found last year at Atapuerca in northern Spain, along with stone tools and animal bones, is up to 1.3 million years old. That would be 500,000 years older than remains from a 1997 find that prompted the naming of a new species: Homo antecessor, or Pioneer Man, possibly a common ancestor to Neanderthals and modern humans.

snip:
Some archeologists believe the process was a stop-and-go one in which species of hominins — a group that includes the extinct relatives of modern humans — emerged and died out quickly only to be replaced by others, making for a very slow spread across the continent, Carbonell said in an interview.

Until now the oldest hominin fossils found in Europe were the Homo antecessor ones, also found at Atapuerca, but at a separate digging site, and a skull from Ceprano in Italy.

Carbonell's team has tentatively classified the new fossil as representing an earlier example of Homo antecessor. And, critically, the team says the new one also bears similarities to much-older fossils dug up since 1983 in the Caucasus at a place called Dmanisi, in the former Soviet republic of Georgia. These were dated as being up to 1.8 million years old.

"This leads us to a very important, very interesting conclusion," Carbonell said. It is this: that hominins which emerged from Africa and settled in the Caucasus eventually evolved into Homo antecessor, and that the latter populated Europe not 800,000 years ago, but at least 1.3 million years ago.

1. I'm not a bit surprised.
We're a far older and more diverse species than early investigators realized.

2. They have 2 standard ways of countering that.
1) Dating technologies are bogus. (complete disregard for science)

2) Satan put those fossils there to make people doubt. (this one is complete la la, but it is their mindset)

21. I can easily prove that my 'ex' could NOT have left those fossils there!
My 'ex', was created by Christians. Christians invented themselves less than a few thousand years ago. This proves that she can not possibly be responsible for leaving those fossils there.

3. Same way they explain everything else, by saying they were put there by God
to test our faith. Can't say I blame them, I myself am convinced that the creationist freaks were put here by God to test my faith

in evolution. ;)

4. God put the bones there for us to find
...because he knew we'd start digging and he didn't want us to be bored.

Carbon dating is just a scheme to push the atheist agenda, it's not real.

But I think this discovery is fascinating!

6. for me, this doesn't change how I view God's creation
We live on a very old planet, and we're gonna come and go rather quickly compared to the length of time this great planet has been here.

Thanks for the news, it's fascinating.

it was evil. No stereos allowed. I bought a $3.00 portable radio. My friends did not want to come over to my house - I ended up basically living w/ my friends until graduation.

It kinda sucks doesn't it? The ones I really feel sorry for are the ones that think of it as normal. I always knew it was waaay off.

Creationists are freaks.

All the evidence we have says they are wrong. Every shred.

They are freaks, very disruptive and dangerously fanatical freaks. They want your kids to learn a pile of lies in school. Don't believe them. Don't trust them. Their beliefs are wrong, and should be ridiculed for the foolish claptrap they are. The Earth is not 6000 years old. It was not created in six days. Humans did not originate from a single pair in a perfect garden.

It's untrue, every bit of it. We don't need to tolerate these beliefs, because they are demonstrably untrue. They are lies, and I have no respect for those beliefs, nor do I have any respect for the people who hold them.

Why? Their beliefs are unworthy of respect, because I can prove they are lies, start to finish. That's why.

18. Yeah. People who think we should stop teaching knowledge in the schools are freaks.
There's no other word for it.

And it's ALWAYS a one-way arguement. Have you ever heard of an instance when an evolutionary biologist marched into a church and demanded that the parishoners teach the theory of evolution in the Sunday schools?

Me neither.

And yet they continue to assert that they are victims of some kind.

22. Don't feel bad; I gave up trying to see them as normal, harmless people
Edited on Thu Mar-27-08 12:18 AM by Aristus
a long time ago.

Edit to say that I'm a Christian; which, among other things, means that I use the brain God was kind enough to give me. I had no problem with check-your-brain-at-the-door worshippers until they gained some frightening political power which they are now using to try to brainwash others into believing what they do. They can teach what they want in their church schools, but keep it out of the public schools. Public schools have a hard enough time trying to educate the nation's youth without having to forgo the teaching of knowledge at all.

I don't mean to dump on you. And I'm sorry you came away from this feeling like you had wasted your time.

27. Oh don't worry about it
and thank you for explaining further in detail. It makes me feel better, even though I was probably being a little sensitive. I tend to do that. I quit a job one time because the manager was making gay type jokes and assumptions about a fellow co-worker. I defended the guy, the guy came in and sided with the freaking bigoted manager. The manager told me to shut up, and fuck you, so I quit. In retrospect, I shouldn't have quit. My point being, I tend to over-react in defending others. LOL ;)

creationists were flamed and they should be for thinking the earth is 6000 years old and that it took six days to make it. I cannot and will not take creationists seriously when they try to hold up a myth over science.

17. Sorry, creationists are freaks.
They may be nice. They may even be politically progressive, but if they insist on denying empirically verified reality because it conflicts with some ancient creation myth, well, that's my definition of a freak.

24. Who cares?
Peoples' religious beliefs, from the sane to the psychopathic and at every point in between, are not subject to rational discussion or amenable to change.

Some religious people do open their minds to change, but that's usually a rare thing. There are only so many Gilbert Chestertons or Tensing Gyatsos in any given era.

There are plenty of excellent religious people, and many religious scientists. But "creationist freaks" are not them. It's a waste of time and effort. Better to keep the door to knowledge open than to try to persuade them to come inside.
