Hell To Pay
<snip>

Some time just before January 7th, 2001, an asteroid capable of pulverizing a good-sized nation flashed through the void, passing perilously close to Earth. Had it struck our planet, the impact would have had global consequences. The energy of the strike would have been equivalent to the explosion of a number of large atomic weapons. From the media perspective, it would have been the biggest story since the extinction of the dinosaurs.

At some point in the next six months, a small, darkened corner of George W. Bush's consciousness will wish the thing had hit us. The apocalypse he and his fundamentalist buddies have been waiting for would have been at hand, and a number of potentially calamitous questions about to be put to his administration would have been avoided.

<snip>

On November 7th, 2000, a clear majority of Americans came to the conclusion that George W. Bush was unfit to govern this nation. For a variety of dark and controversial reasons, that conclusion was thrown over. Sometime soon, if the media's electronic web continues to carry these sordid stories of corruption, greed and death, the American people will come to fully understand the consequences of that failed election.

It is one thing to coddle and court a corrupt energy company for political and financial gain. It is quite another to coddle and court a murderous terrorist-supporting regime, hindering anti-terrorism investigations in the process, for the purpose of exploiting valuable natural resources. The former cost a number of people their retirement funds. The latter has cost thousands of people their lives. One is criminal. The other is abominable. George W. Bush is deeply implicated in both. There will be hell to pay.

Will had a link to DU on his website and that is how I came to DU in 2002. I lurked for quite awhile before I joined and started posting. I didn't feel alone and isolated in my thoughts about being a Democrat. I have found my voice and though I don't post much, I love this place, despite all the infighting going on right now.

What brought you to DU?

3. Will Pitt was prolific in those early years of this crisis.
Although he has written two or three books for the public, he has probably written ten times that much for DU?

4. Read an Al Franken book, then googled, then found DU...
Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them made me realize that I wasn't alone. Didn't take long to find DU. This was in 2004.

5. rants by Nance
I had never been particularly interested in politics until the Bush administration. I had always leaned Democrat, much to the chagrin of my Republican father. He is so disappointed that his children are Democrats.

7. 9-11
However I lurked until early 2002 when I finally registered and posted. In the evening on 9-11, an news anchor said "let's check what's being said around the world", and he quoted posts from Urban75, so I logged on there first before finding DU. At U75 I got traction immediately, much dialogue. I was an avid poster at U75, a Brixton, UK based board, until about 2005. However, I yearned for a US-centric board, an opportunity to interact on-line with my fellow Americans, so I came here. Here, however, I've never gotten much traction. Investment in longer posts quickly disappear and the result is I rarely achieve the productive learning dialogues I was able to get going at U75. I stayed here at DU anyway, mostly because of the dynamite posts made by the early and current core. There are some truly tremendous posts made here from time to time, so rather than speak, I read and learn (albeit I post an occassional comment) -- truly I've done this just about every day since 9-11-2001.

15. Link From Bartcop.com Years Ago.
I never joined then just lurked as it used to be more community based and had a dialog going. But since it became Obama Underground I had to join to give back a little as I will defend my gal and my country to the end. When the newer half of my party starts sounding less intelligent than the average freeper one has to put their foot down and call them out.

I haven't seen your posts in awhile and was wondering if you're okay. :hi:
The kids and I are on Spring Break and have been going, going, going. This morning is the first morning I'm still in my jammies hanging out on DU. :) With all of the craziness, I started to think about what brought me here in the first place.

a few odd jobs here and there, but the painting business is dead. :(
I'm planting a garden at Grandma's this year, and hoping I can find some kind of work soon, at least something that pays more than the $200 a week unemployment I am so lucky to be getting.
Good luck to you too! :hug:

On edit: Sorry I "misspoke". I'm pretty sleep deprived. Did I mention the sniper fire??

28. It was a freeper type on a fishing forum website.

We were discussing political events of the day and he told me something like " ... well if that's the way you see it you should be posting on Democratic Underground". I'm sure there was some sarcasm in the way he said it. But I tried what he said and have been here ever since. Even though he didn't intend to endorse DU I owe that moran freeper type a debt of gratitude.

29. followed the link from Buzzflash
ended up coming here more and more over the years. I am not much of a talker, but I sure have been listening! I especially love the breaking news, call my sister and keep her up to the minute, and she listens to cable news all day long. With all the primary threads I sort of miss my familiar DU, but I can't resist coming here every day. Could it be addictive?
