Breaking: For you Siegelman fans. House judiciary committee wants him in Washington to testify
House panel seeks former Alabama Gov. Don Siegelman for testimony before Congress

By BEN EVANS , Associated Press

Last update: March 27, 2008 - 11:13 AM

WASHINGTON - The House Judiciary Committee has asked the Justice Department to temporarily release former Alabama Gov. Don Siegelman from prison to testify before Congress in early May about possible political influence over his prosecution.

A spokeswoman for the committee said Thursday that Siegelman, who is serving more than seven years in a Louisiana prison, would travel to Washington under guard of the U.S. Marshals Service. She said Committee Chairman John Conyers, a Michigan Democrat, wants to hear directly from Siegelman because lawmakers are having trouble getting information elsewhere, including from the Justice Department.

Siegelman, a Democrat, was elected governor in 1998 and served one term. He was convicted in 2006 on six bribery-related and one obstruction of justice charge. Democrats last year began reviewing the case as part of a broader investigation what they said were selective prosecutions by the Bush administration.

1. Does One Have to Be a Fan, Per Se?
To appreciate the political witch hunt?

Here's a clue: they're all dirty. Every freaking one. Politics is just about which sleaze you're going to align yourself with.

8. Oookay....
Since the Justice Dept isn't giving them the information they need, they are asking the Justice Dept to help them find out if political influence within the Justice Dept may have illegally incarcerated a man they want the Justice Dept to release to potentially implicate the Justice Dept.

Yeah. Good luck with that.

10. Honestly,
with this "Justice" Department I fear for his safety, they wouldn't even let 60 minutes interview him. I've seen one thread where they said he was beaten up.

11. Yep - The House Judiciary Committee needs to be a lot more aggressive.
Their subpoenas and requests are going to be ignored until Jan 21, 2009. This is a whole new kind of fight.

19. Siegelman to be released from prison!!!
Former Gov. Don Siegelman will be released from prison...the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals granted him an appeal bond...

Acting U.S. Attorney Louis Franklin said he was...disappointed but..."The 11th Circuit has the discretion to do that and I respect that."

14. I'm sure the DOJ will go along
Mukasey wouldn't enforce contempt resolutions against Bolton or Myers. He is likely going to block this as well.
