Screenwriter of 'Judgment at Nuremberg' Abby Mann Died Today
Edited on Fri Mar-28-08 02:48 AM by cynatnite
He was 80.

He tackled social issues and faced much difficulties in getting 'Judgment at Nuremberg' made. No one wanted to deal with it. Eventually it was made and Abby Mann went on to win an Oscar for his work. He also wrote and directed the emmy nominated miniseries 'King' which was about MLK.

Upon accepting his Oscar, he said, "A writer worth his salt at all has an obligation not only to entertain but to comment on the world in which he lives."

1. One of my favorite movies...
Burt Lancaster (who plays the top Nazi bad guy in the film) also starred in "Seven Days in May" another movie with a very pointed political message.

I would be curious to know what his political values were.
