State of Disrepair: 5 former Secretaries of State at a round-table discussion...Fascinating!
http://onlineathens.com/stories/032808/news_2008032800147.shtml

The next president should rebuild the nation's standing abroad by closing down the Guantanamo Bay prison camp, withdrawing troops from Iraq and opening talks with Iran, five former secretaries of state said Thursday.

The United States' flagging reputation is salvageable, but restoring it will be a daunting task, the bipartisan panel of top diplomats said during a University of Georgia-sponsored roundtable discussion at the Classic Center to advise the future administration.

.....<snip>

Although some believe the United States is on a collision course with China, Kissinger - who with Nixon opened relations with China in 1971 - said the two nations are natural partners.

"We should not look on China as a military adversary," he said.

But U.S. leaders should condemn China's human rights violations, Albright added. In Latin America, free trade will bring prosperity to the region, Baker said. He said he hopes the next president will succeed in negotiating an agreement where Bush and Clinton failed.

New leadership in Cuba brings hope for thawing relations, Christopher said. He called for ending the embargo, which is "driven more by politics than by foreign policy. When policies don't work for 50 years, it's time to think about trying something new," he said.

I'm in town, but tickets were gone within minutes of being released. What I wouldn't have given to have attended this roundtable at UGA. Sorry if it's a duplicate. I'm on my parent's computer and don't have the luxury of spending a lot of time researching DU before I post.

4. Then how come these X-public servants are so pro-peace now?

Wish Condi Rice was so "insightful".

Closing all Bush off-shore prisons using my tax dollars is acceptable let alone the one in Cuba.

Cuba does business with other countries. They don't need us. If they do business with us will they end up like Hatti? Or part of the Americas (trade and government) Union. Is Fascism in their future also?

Kissenger is a leader in the Bilderberg Group so I don't take much of what he says as credible. Baker and "free" trade for Africa will enslave it even more. Madeline thought the Shock & Awe was "worth it" and wanted us to go to war against Iraq while at the Akron peace conference.

NAFTA and our aggression militarily around the world was approved by all of them.

China is a concern since they are aggressive to feed and take power for themselves.

Read: Lying for Empire.

It seemed to be a meeting of past "globalists". What happens when they reach the top? They don't want to give up power by joining "secret groups" and become globalists. None spoke against our aggression and goal to be an Empire. None spoke of the loss of our democracy and our rights here at home. None spoke of our loss of being ruled by "We the people". None called for the accountability for this "mess" and corruption. None called for the impeachment of the WH thugs.

I have to admit I didn't see this panel but I know from their past administrations they were responsible for much of the "mess" we have now. What little pearls of wisdom they can offer is just plain arrogance and self deception.

The new President needs to stop trying to be an Empire Builder and look out for our best interests.

For President of the world's most successful Democracy we don't want...

-A Hitler who brings genocide and world war for an elite rule.

-A Caesar who wants "unending war" to rape and rule the world leaving many societies far away destroyed and destitute for many hundreds of years.

-A Neapolitan who wants to unite all of Europe against their will.

-A Nero so self involved and selfish he ignores a crisis that destroys his great city while he fiddles.

-A Attila the Hun who murders everyone is sight to create fear thus forcing them to accept his rule.

-A Medici who feels he can have absolute power and wealth saying God appointed him.

-A king like Nicholas Romanov Tsar of Russia who lives lavishly and in arrogance while his citizens starve.

-A Stalin who murdered millions of his own people for power and a political philosophy.

Here's the historical first for the world…

-A Bush who pollutes and destroys forever the earth’s environment and resources for profit and power.

When you think about it, President Bush has done a little of all the above to America and the world. He should be impeached and tried at The Hague for environmental damage, war, and breaking international treaties (signed by previous Congresses). He can not change those without Congressional and citizen approval.

We must learn from history not repeat or even add a new horror to the world.

7. Thanks for this well-thought out, comprehensive list!
I would add: Like Coolidge and Hoover, who sought to protect the rich, while millions fell into poverty, starvation and homelessness, and the country sank beneath a Great Depression, caused by the greed of the rich.

The parallel is haunting. And the total evil committed by the Bush junta is staggering.

-------

And I like the way you put this--about the gathering of war criminals and corporate shills at the University of Georgia...

"...they were responsible for much of the 'mess' we have now. What little pearls of wisdom they can offer is just plain arrogance and self deception."

:wow: :puke: :wow:

jobs in the new administration? Those endorsements certainly are. I pay no attention to candidates being supported by Richardson, Kerry, etc.
