DU is filled with Flip Floppers.
I have never seen so many folks willing in a NY minute to drop the candidate they are supporting now for another ever before.

Al Gore has done something no other candidate could possibly do and that is almost unite DU singlehandedly. I've seen Clark supporters, Obama, Edwards, Hillary, and yes even Greens say that the moment Al Gore steps into the race they will back him. I believe we have the strongest Democratic field in years and yet this Gore phenomenon is even stronger.

Imagine a united DU.

Wow....just wow.

Run Al!

Signed,
A Flip Flopper.

8. Not if your goal is to win elections.
Your ideals are almost worthless if you don't have the power to enact them.

10. I think I know what rodeodance means.
If we're going to vote for one person to run against the Republican candidate for president, the time is now for debate and yes, a little arguing, because we're passionate about politics. It's what the Primary campaign season is all about. I'd hate it if we started marching in lockstep.

14. God how I hate that term "lockstep"
I have never known of any member of DU, let alone the party, to "march in lockstep" yet the right accuses us of that and insist that DU is simply an echo chamber. To be united behind a candidate does not equate to lockstep. I can like Gore for all the reasons you dislike him. To unite for the good of the party and the good of the nation does not equate to "marching in lockstep".

19. as it should be...these are not normal times and we need a strongly ethical leader
to turn back the many decades of corruption and closed government that has hurt this world in so many ways.

Few have that strong ethical make-up - after his break with the DC powerstructure, Gore has become one of those few.

jettison Lieberman from the party with a swift boot kick.

Imagine the joy in that!

2. I would vote for the CORPSE of a yellow dog...
if I thought it could become a Democratic POTUS. Any Democrat would be preferable to any Repuke. If that makes me a flip-flopper, so be it. (P.S.: I certainly do not mean to imply that the estimable Mr. Gore is in any way similar to a yellow dog or the corpse thereof. He's one of my true heroes, and he would have/still might make a SPLENDID president.):hi: :dem:

4. It's as it should be, for President Gore
I've believed in my heart that if he wished to enter the race in 2008, he should not only be afforded that opportunity but given the full support of everyone who'd voted for him in 2000.

So this doesn't really surprise me. Then again, I have fairly high expectations of decency and loyalty from those who (generally) share my political leanings.

like dissing dems and i dont go onto a gore thread to put in my dissent. i believe people should be allowed to favor their candidate and have threads on them that are not full of attack. i am a kerry supporter and watched two years of threads where he was doing stuff beyond any other dem getting attacked outrageously and unlogically just cause of kerry haters. couldn't have a thread of him doing something for us without the same ole crowd coming on and dissing the man.

31. Well you are in the minority among Dem (bloggers at least) then
Gore gets the most votes in most polls (yeah they are unscientific, but even just from scanning the majority of posts-he rarely gets an unfavorable word) both here and on Kos. I haven't seen lefty bloggers be this positive about a Democrat (active or retired) in a while. So, I doubt that it is just people who dislike Gore being silent out of dislike of dissing Dems. I think Gore does actually enjoy a greater degree of support among political lefty bloggers at least than almost anyone else at this point and its been that way for a while.

22. But..
Sure Gore's great and all.

But I heard that he once had an opinion that differed from mine (he preferred mustard to ketchup on his hot dogs), so I couldn't possible support that.

;-)

Gore is the candidate who'd instantly get my support.

I'm saddened greatly that he wasn't president this past six years...on the other hand I'm delighted that Lieberman wasn't VP the past six years.

24. Here's a test. Can everyone on DU get five friends and themselves
to send $5.00 each to a fund set up by some trustworthy fund holding group?

If he doesn't run, the money would go to a project or victims negatively affected by a Bush admin policy that Gore has spoken out against.

If he does run, each of the six would send an additional $50 to the campaign in an attempt to shut out lobbyist money.

26. technically speaking, your OP is WRONG - al gore is NOT a candidate so, one is free to
support any other available candidate at this time.

If and when al gore announces, then changing to him will not be a flip flop. it will be a new choice based on new circumstances.
