3 Other Children Of Parents Who Prayed While Girl Was Dying Are Removed From Wis. Home
WAUSAU, Wis. - The three siblings of a girl who died of diabetes that went untreated as her parents prayed instead of taking her to a doctor have been removed from the home during an investigation, police said Friday.

The parents and social services experts agreed the move would be best for everyone, Everest Metro Police Chief Dan Vergin said. The children are staying with other relatives, though they were not in danger, he said.

"There is no physical evidence of abuse or neglect," he said.

Madeline Neumann, 11, died Sunday the Weston home of an undiagnosed but treatable form of diabetes as her parents, Dale and Leilani Neumann, prayed for her to get better. Her mother said she never expected her daughter, whom she called Kara, to die.

The family believes in the Bible, which says healing comes from God, Leilani Neumann said.

The children removed from the home range in age from 13 to 16 and are expected to return to their parents once an investigation of the girl's death wraps up, Vergin said.

1. i sincerely hope
that the girl's parents spend the rest of their lives rotting behind bars. Give them plenty more time to pray.

2. Too bad they do not even have religious common sense, only ignorance.

But remember the story said there was no sign of neglect or abuse and that the mother did not expect the girl to die. This girl probably grew up in a loving family, however religiously ignorant and less than perfect. Thousands of children live lives of neglect and abuse and whose lives are a living hell. Many of them also die or live to become adults with broken spirits and memories of a childhood of nightmares.

I knew this pastor once who told me a story about this young Christian guy who had his first apartment on his own. The pastor visited him and asked why his place was full of garbage and the reply he got was, "Well, I thought God would tell me when to take out the garbage and then help me with it". The answer he got was that God had given him the common sense, the knowledge and the ability to take out the garbage all on his own.

Even if you approach this from a Christian religious perspective, God gives doctors the ability and the talent to do what they can do. They are the hands of God. I have heard more than one surgeon claim that he did not know how he was able to do whatever he had done, that it was a miracle that he could not explain. But also, in the end, do not hold God responsible for the idiotic and moronic things that are done by believers in the name of God. In the same way, don't hold politicians like Clinton or Obama responsible for everything their supporters do or say in their name either.

Oh, by the way, at best I am an agnostic. I realize it is popular to trash Christianity here at DU, painting it with a broad brush as being worthless or dangerous, but I won't throw the baby out with the bath water. There is nothing perfect, there is only life and hope.

3. That's okay. The parents can still probably get jobs in Bush's HHS dept.

4. "There is no physical evidence of abuse or neglect,"...
you mean, except for the fact that the girl is dead?

That's pretty strong evidence of neglect in my book.

6. That's just what I was thinking
If somebody did this to an animal, there would be animal cruelty/neglect charges filed against them, no questions asked. Why the hell is it different for human beings?
