Kadhafi warns US allies could suffer Saddam's fate

DAMASCUS (AFP) — Libyan leader Moamer Kadhafi warned Arab allies of the United States that they could meet the same fate as former Iraq president Saddam Hussein, hanged in 2006 three years after the US-led invasion.

"A foreign force occupied an Arab country and hanged its president and we stood by and watched," he told an Arab summit in the Syrian capital.

Saddam was hanged in December 2006 after being sentenced to death for crimes against humanity over the mass killing of Shiites in the 1980s.

"How can they execute a prisoner of war and the president of a member of the Arab League?" Kadhafi asked.

He said Saddam had been a friend of the United States during the Iran-Iraq war in the 1980s "before they turned against him and executed him."

"You could all suffer the same fate," he warned.

1. I'm surprised it's taken this long for one of the Arab League to say this in public
We have NO clue as to what is really being communicated between the other Arab states that have been watching the Iraq fiasco.

2. There is going to be some big Blow Back over this.
The Arabs have centuries long memories. It will not be over even if the major criminals escape to Paraguay.

3. Wonder what would happen if the major criminals escaped to Dubai?
They'd be smack-dab in the middle of Arab-ville. I'd bet that NOBODY, no matter who he is or how powerful he is or was, can escape judgment forever. I just hope to see it with my own eyes during my lifetime.

4. As Adolf Eichmann found out there are NO real hiding places for
the guilty. It just takes one determined human to bring justice.

8. One can certainly hope! The population now is larger than it was then, so presumably
more people will remember, for longer. I know I myself will NEVER forget this period of our history. I EAGERLY await the night we can raise a glass (or something else) to the END of it.
