Saudi woman killed for chatting on Facebook
Saudi woman killed for chatting on Facebook

Last Updated: 12:53pm BST 31/03/2008

A young Saudi Arabian woman was murdered by her father for chatting on the social network site Facebook, it has emerged.

The unnamed woman from Riyadh was beaten and shot after she was discovered in the middle of an online conversation with a man, the al-Arabiya website reported.

The case was reported on a Saudi Arabian news site as an example of the "strife" the social networking site is causing in the Islamic nation.

Saudi preacher Ali al-Maliki has emerged as the leading critic of Facebook, claiming the network is corrupting the youth of the nation.

1. a perfect example of what they think of the west
this was a family matter. Daddy kills his baby girl because of HIS "honor".
and will be found not guilty, probably, not even charged.

Now, turn on your TV. Watch for 5 minutes. Recognize that every single second of every boredcast is an insult to a goodly percentage of them and their religion.
then remember from which country 11 of the 19 hijackers came. and were funded. trained. supplied. paid.

3. Are you saying that it's our fault that this occurred?

That's why I asked for clarification. :)

8. Okie dokie.
The issue is not Islam. I have clients, friends, former lovers who are muslims. But just like I think that certain evangelical churches which promote anti-science, flat earth ideas, including faith healing, purity balls, and creationism are insane and a cancer on our society, there are certain muslim sects which I find as offensive. The point is that a broad brush does not work. But, we have to recognize that a sizable percentage of the princes who run the House of Saud have strong feelings about western society. And it ain't pretty.

10. I'll mostly agree with that.
But when one of these lunatic fringe Catholic individuals or groups does something horrific, you immediately have extremely vocal opposition from the "normal" Catholics who denounce and condemn the actions. That vocal opposition just doesn't come from what even I admit are the vast numbers of peaceful and moderate Muslims.

14. not true. Only in America does the MSM ignore the opposition.
hell, here in sudensuburbs of chicago, we have a large lebanese, palestinian, and libyan population. Many mosques. Many muslims. After 9-11, they uniformly came out and complained about that act of war, and asked to meet with christian and jewish groups to enter into talks.

the MSM ignored it.

some of those resulting organizations continue to work together.

The MSM still ignores it. It does not fit their bimbo-based idea of news.

15. convenient, at rare times, useful.
and never do dems use a broad stroke like the GOP. Heck, they made "progressive and liberal" into swear words.

2. Yet you can be labelled as "Islamophobic" if you call for a sweeping reformation of Islam

6. This is an indictment of all organized religion taken to the extreme.
If you take ANY Religion too far it isn't healthy.

That can be said for Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Islam or any other practiced Religion.

IMHO

7. I agree.
But Islam is the only one currently problematic on a very large scale.

9. er . . . . NO.
When you have sects in Colorado Springs forcing Air Force Cadets to submit to their peculiar dominionist set of beliefs, and to swear allegience to their book of fairy tales first, the constitution and their chain of command second, I suggest that our problem is huge and growing.

When you have purity balls in which daughter pledges her vagina to daddy, until daddy hands it off to an approved christian hubby, (AND those folks have the highest rates of STDs in the country) I suggest that our problem is huge and growing.

Christianity is as bad as any other religion.
