Violence in Iraq has Exploded- What is Congress doing?
After waiting two weeks for Congress to get back from their undeserved vacation- What are they doing to help fix the mess they have created?

H. Con. Res. 302:
supporting the observance of Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, and for other purposes

H.R. 2515:
to authorize appropriations for the Bureau of Reclamation to carry out the Lower Colorado River Multi-Species Conservation Program in the States of Arizona, California, and Nevada, and for other purposes

H.R. 3651:
to require the conveyance of certain public land within the boundaries of Camp Williams, Utah, to support the training and readiness of the Utah National Guard

H.R. 2675:
to provide for the conveyance of approximately 140 acres of land in the Ouachita National Forest in Oklahoma to the Indian Nations Council, Inc., of the Boy Scouts of America, and for other purposes

H.R. 3891:
to amend the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation Establishment Act to increase the number of Directors on the Board of Directors of the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation

H.R. 3352:
to reauthorize and amend the Hydrographic Services Improvement Act, and for other purposes

H.R. 4933:
to amend the Lacey Act Amendments of 1981 to protect captive wildlife and to make technical corrections, and for other purposes

H.R. 2342:
to direct the President to establish a National Integrated Coastal and Ocean Observation System, and for other purposes

H.R. 1187:
to expand the boundaries of the Gulf of the Farallones National Marine Sanctuary and the Cordell Bank National Marine Sanctuary

As much as I appreciated their sudden concern for the environment(or something?) What the hell??

I am so sick of this bullshit war!! I am sure that more than 4,000 of our troops our dead(remember after Vietnam we found out they were lying about the numbers), thousands are dying from Depleted Uranium poisoning, thousands more are horrible maimed for life. Not to mention the million plus innocent Iraqis that have been killed. Bush/Cheney are lying about and threatening to attack Iran, meanwhile Condi gets back from middle east "peace" talks in time for Israel to announce they are building 14,000 more homes in Palestinian territories. They are still making the situation worse in every possible way and trying to start WW3. The war profiteers are still going strong, and oil companies are making record profits.

It is hard to imagine the Congress being more useless. We must demand more from our government! If they are truly representing We the People, then the We the People are much worse off than I had imagined.(think Idiocracy) If they are not representing US, they need to be removed from office ASAP!

6. Introduce legislation to end the war
Tell Bush he has received the last money he is going to get and to use it to get the troops home now!

How about a rousing debate on Iraq? They should be having a teach in and finding out the truth about what is happening. When there are hearings, very few even bother showing up. They don't even care about what they have done. They sleep just fine at night while many of US have lived in horror and guilt about what we have done to millions of innocent people.

13. Where have you been? Did you miss it when they tried that previously? Apparently.
Keep in mind that Congress (including most Dems) voted for this damned war. Ending it will take more than a simply resolution.

7. The power is in the hands of Congress
They hold the purse strings. Bush and the pentagon could not have "accomplished" anything without the complicity of the Congress.

Most importantly they should be introducing articles of Impeachment to stop Bush/Cheney from Attacking Iran. We already have the goods on them, there is no time to lose!

What happened to Kucinich introducing articles of Impeachment of Bush?

8. Those are problems in Washington, Not in Iraq.
Edited on Mon Mar-31-08 03:41 PM by Wizard777
Congress has no way of directly addressing the violence in Iraq. That's up to the commander and chief. Even if they do shut the war down and withdrawl troops. The violence will continue.

9. They are the ones directly funding it(with our money)
The violence is worse with our presence. We are the problem.
The Iraqis want US out! And the stupid puppet government as well.
Nothing we are doing will ever make things better, except for Halliburton and the other war profiteers.

They need to Impeach Bush and Cheney and stop the nonsense now, before they kill again.

14. I don't entirely disagree with that. But your premise is violence exploding in Iraq.
Congress does not control that. The violence will continue after we leave as power struggles escalate. Iraq was a violent society before we invaded and they will continue to be a violent society after we leave.

17. They don't hate each other
They hate US!

Congress has given Bush the green light to commit war crimes in Iraq. They are in control of accountability yet they do nothing.

19. Give it a rest - the SFRC has meeting most of this week on Iraq
The Constitution gives the President most of the power to actually run the war. Congress can have hearings, but you are directing your anger in the wrong direction for two reasons.
1) THe President should get most of the blame
2) The bills you listed are not coming out of SFRC or Armed Serives Commiottee. You act as if doing one harms the other.

Remember that we control Congress now by an extremely narrow majority - in fact on the war - we don't have the majority without pulling in Republicans. Do you want Senators like Lautenberg - who was never for the war, voted for Kerry/Feingold and who is up for re-election to have a harder time because of the strong and BLANKET demand for change? I think we need something more thoughtful.
