Had a bit of a rough time a year after I went off Paxil. Something they have discovered is all too common, a reaction a year or so after getting off of it. But I dodged that bullet. Otherwise, no. All I have to do is remember what life was like when I was giving it heavy pelters. Remarkable how keeping that memory fresh can dissuade one from that special thirst. ;-)

Look, just keep "green" the memory of JUST HOW MISERABLE YOU WERE when you were drinking to wretched excess. Then recognize and cherish how better things are, even when they are terrible, when you are dry.

As for sobriety, I cannot help you. I do not think that sobriety is a quality you can will in yourself. It is one that comes with time, self-relection, wisdom and moderation of behavior. It is also something you cannot recognize in yourself, but something others recognize in you. Sobriety is also a by-product of ethical behavior and that is also something that takes time and wisdom.

I used to get way too surly, and get drunk every week end, I drank every day for almost 2 years in high school, then at the university I just quit. That cut my social life way down but I smoked grass and found that I could keep my teeth and still get good grades with that habit.

I also used to smoke weed every day, now I just do that on weekends. The next step will be just on "special events" or perhaps just quit that too. I became a father a few months ago and that is when I went from smoking every day to 3 days a week. I want to be a good role model for my child and I just did not see smoking weed every day as such a good thing to teach her. It also makes me want to not have my "weekend routine smoking sessions" but I am still used to that so that change will probably come later, once I have things to do with the kids on the weekend like soccer matches. I never drive with my kids in the car if I smoke weed so that also helps me cut down a lot on my smoking.

I noticed that I often times vowed to never drink again because of the stupid shit I did while drunk or the hangovers. Cannabis never made me like that so I have never vowed to quit. Cutting down to ten or twelve times a year is my eventual goal. One plant in the garden and a joint on the fourth of july type use. Man I must be getting old.....

I cut tobacco out ten years ago.
