In a ruling Tuesday denying Cornerstone Christian Schools' attempt to join the state's premier extracurricular organization, a federal judge chided the school's founder and famed preacher John Hagee for contradicting at times his own Christian tenets, using numerous references to the Bible, Koran and even a famous fairy tale.
Cornerstone sued the University Interscholastic Leaguelast year, claiming religious discrimination kept its students from activities that tax-paying parents partly fund.
The school, which claims 600 students in kindergarten through high school, is affiliated with Cornerstone Church, Hagee's nondenominational megachurch. From the pulpit there, he announced plans to go after the UIL in court, drawing applause that day from the roughly 5,000-member audience.

In January 2006, Cornerstone was forced to forfeit 25 victories and placed on three years' probation after nine varsity players were ruled by TAPPS to have received improper arrangements regarding room and board.
Many private schools charge more than $20,000 per year for tuition, room and board, Burleson testified. Cornerstone, Burleson said, was charging players from as far away as Cameroon, France and Israel just $100.

The judge in this case, Fred Biery, was a long time Democrat activist/trial lawyer/district judge before he was appointed to a federal judge spot by Clinton. Fred remains a damn good judge to have in federal court in Texas. I love the way he gigged Hagee for being a hypocrite in the decision.
