Elizabeth Edwards Will Be a Fellow at Harvard
Elizabeth Edwards, the wife of John Edwards, the former presidential candidate, has accepted a brief fellowship at Harvard University’s Institute of Politics, the university announced today.
The fellowship, which starts next Tuesday and runs through Thursday, includes a public address at the John F. Kennedy Jr. Forum on April 9. A university spokesman said the topic had not been announced.
Visiting fellows at Harvard typically spend their time interacting with students, faculty members, and researchers, meeting with student groups, leading discussions and sharing their experiences in public and political service, according to a news release from the university.
Word of the fellowship came as Ms. Edwards, a lawyer and author, was making headlines for her criticism of John McCain’s health care plan. In a blog posted on the Center for American Progress’ Web site earlier today, Ms. Edwards said the presumptive Republican nominee’s plan would leave Americans with life-threatening conditions like cancer without insurance.
“Despite fuzzy language and feel-good lines in the Senator’s proposal, I do understand exactly how devastating it will be to people who have the health conditions with which the Senator and I are confronted,” she wrote, according to CNN. Mr. McCain has been treated for melanoma, while Ms. Edwards has been treated for breast cancer.
