Would Gore accept running the EPA?
Edited on Thu Apr-03-08 09:22 AM by Omaha Steve

I think him running it with a bigger budget would finally do the job the EPA was created for.

4. Yep

I had to edit twice. I'm in a rush out the door. Should have just taken my time to begin with.

10. If a presidential candidate made the commitment to get him a budget...
...he might take that job. A continuation of *-era malign neglect wouldn't attract him.

2. it would be AWESOME if he would!
But would he knowingly walk into such a potential snake-pit job?

3. Kind of a huge step down doncha think?

I'm thinking more of an ambassador to save the world from global warming.

EPA is just us. That won't cut it.

6. Running an agency would best be left to those . .
. . who see that (an effective adminstrator of departments and budgets) as who they are and who really get off on exercising that skill-set. It takes a special person to do that well. Gore seems to have found his identity - as a person who brings big messages to millions. Let's let him run with that and be happy. He deserves it and the environment will be better for it.

8. Good point. Yet I'd like to see enviornment as a Department. In that role,
Secretary of the Environment, Gore might click. He could hire the administrative types to run the day to day agencies.

7. I think Obama should create a new cabinet position...
...that would be tailor-made for Gore.

Interior Secretary is too broad. We should have a stellar environmentalist
in that position, but Gore's talents (and the issue of global warming) should
be elevated to cabinet-level importance.

Secretary of Climate Change.

9. I Don't Think So
I just don't think he would confine himself to a cabinet position. His platform is the world now. I could be wrong but I just don't think he has any interest in it. I could see him being an adviser with a whole lotta clout.

11. I don't see Gore working in any administration other than his own
He has gained too much gravitas outside of Washington to fall back into that ditch... unless it were on his own terms.

14. If the US could emerge as a true leader in environmental sustainability
I could see Gore creating and heading up an international agency - a "UN-like" body on the environment. That would be several years away though.
