*******ABC: AL GORE POLL******
Edited on Wed Feb-28-07 03:14 PM by whereismyparty
As it stands now:

A Nashville think tank touting Al Gore's electric bills says the energy reform advocate consumes 20 times more energy than the average American.

Is Gore's energy consumption hypocritical?

Yes. He should practice what he preaches.

No. He is greatly reducing carbon emissions through his work.

(not just ABC) -- proving that no one knows what they are talking about.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17382210/

GORE's people and MSNBC reports the number to be 1,200 a month. i lived in an apartment that required a 400 a month electricity, in Tennessee (historic inefficient house). our moderately efficient nashville house cost 120 a month in electricity and it was EXACTLY ONE TENTH the square footage of the Gore's Belle Meade home...

25. yeah -- i just did some calculations based on cost per kwh in nashville
Edited on Wed Feb-28-07 03:46 PM by nashville_brook
and for a 10,500 sq ft home he's running way efficient at $1,200 a month and even $4,000 a month.

my calcs could be wrong, but the cost of a kwh in Nashville is apprx $.07
you figure baseload in the south on 6 kwh per sq ft and multiply by 12 (months), adding 2.1 kwh per sq ft for 6 months of heat and 1.4 kwh per sq ft for cooling for 6 months.

I come up with a $72,000 electric bill a year in an all-electric house with that sq footage -- but, Nashville homes usually use a lot of natural gas, which is why the number is lower for Gore's home.

here's the reference for the cost per kwh in nashville:
http://www.nespower.com/resrates.aspx

here's an article on how to calculate your baseload:
http://www.caec.com/e_advice_detail.aspx?id=255

Understanding Energy Use in Your All-Electric Home

Would you like to reduce your electricity consumption? As you plan to improve your home’s efficiency, it helps to understand where you use electrical power.

The first step is to understand how your home uses energy, then you can target an where you might be losing efficiency.

First, we need to separate your annual electricity consumption into heating, air conditioning and baseload uses. Baseload uses include water heating, lighting, refrigeration, laundry, and other uses that don’t vary much from month to month. Once you have an estimate of your baseload usage, you can estimate your heating and cooling costs in order to see if they fall above or below average.

Look at your spring or fall electric bills to estimate your baseload energy use, since you probably use little or no heating or air conditioning during this time. Find the spring month and the fall months when the usage (kwh, not dollars) was lowest. Multiply that average monthly electricity usage by 125 percent to get a rough estimate of your monthly baseload. Then multiply this monthly baseload by 12 to estimate your annual baseload in kilowatt-hours.

To compute your electricity use for cooling, subtract your average monthly baseload from the kilowatt-hours used for each summer month. For heating electricity, subtract the monthly baseload from the kilowatt-hours used each winter month.

When you are done, you should have three things: (1) total baseload kwh used for 12 months (2) total kwh used for cooling and (3) total kwh used for heating.

If you divide the total kwh used for each of these number by the square footage of your home. This will provide you with a number if kwh used per square foot.

According the the Energy Information Administration, the average home in a southern climate uses about 2.1 kwh per square foot for heating, while the same home uses about 1.4 kwh per square foot for cooling. The average baseload is 6.0 kwh per square foot.

If your baseload electricity consumption is very much above the average, you should think about some energy saving measures. Your baseload electricity consumption can be affected by older inefficient appliances, a high demand for hot water or unusual loads such as a swimming pool. It is also true that the number of persons living in the home can affect this number. If you have four or more occupants (especially teens), this can be increasing your usage.

If your heating consumption or cooling consumption is above the kWh average, you should think about some energy saving measures. Your electrical heating consumption depends on insulation levels, air leakage and heating efficiency. Your air-conditioning electricity usage is determined by window shading, attic insulation, air leakage and air-conditioning or heat pump efficiency.

his usage per square foot is average compared to nashville homes. AND he uses something called "Green Power Switch" which is more expensive than regular electric rates.

66. Typical for the MSM: The poll is BS...
By adding the line, "He should practice what he preaches", to a simple yes or no question, they are artificially skewing the results toward "Yes". Of course he should be practicing what he preaches but what they don't tell you is that he IS doing so already. Sheeple who don't look any further than what the corporate media tells them will almost certainly answer yes to this poll even if they kind of like Al Gore and what he stands for.

69. This has got to be rigged.
I have been watching this poll pretty carefully and I have got to say that it has got to be rigged. They must have Diebold software. Even though DU has been hitting it pretty hard, the percentage has barely changed. Somethin' smells rotten at ABC.

77. Hey, ABC, why not have a poll about Ghouliani's live-in boyfriends?
While he was married and his wife threw him out of Gracie Mansion probably for domestic abuse.

79. He must be running, and They're scared shitless of him.
That would explain the sudden, desperate poo-flinging by the powers-that-be.
