With all the Suffering, I find the Senate Grandstanding SICKENING!!
I've been in the hospital for a few days, so I haven't been around or keeping up on much. But when I got back to my computer one of the first things I saw was the Senate congratulating themselves over some new "bipartisan" bill on housing and foreclosures. They make it sound nice and worthwhile, but I must be missing something.

To me it just seems like more of the same, more help for the industry and very little for the people, in other words, too little, too late. 8,000 people and families are losing their homes everyday, this bill will do about nothing to stop that.

And more importantly, what about people and families who are already homeless? Unless I missed it I see nothing in this bill that addresses this huge problem. And how can any bill on housing not take this into consideration? Do these people not exist? Are they invisible? I'm sure our government would love for this to be the case, but they would be wrong. The people who need the help the most are always the one who never get it. Why is that? Seriously, if someone can explain that to me or show me that I'm wrong, I'd love to hear it!!

Having come so close myself to losing our home, I find this feeble grandstanding on the part of the Senate disheartening and sickening. My home was saved, but with no help from our lawmakers, even though I tried, I had to hire someone to negotiate for me, and got lucky. But the millions already living on the street or in their cars have no recourse and this bill will not give them any. And the millions more who will not be as fortunate as I was will also end up homeless, but the politicians will still go on congratulating each other. Are they that out of touch, just plain cruel or completely ignorant?

I suggest that we contact our lawmakers and let them know, in no uncertain terms that we will not stand for this and we want some answers. If we don't get them, let them know that they will lose their jobs, the election is upcoming. Maybe if there are enough of "invisible" people and others who care we can make a difference. I don't know, but its worth a shot, I know that I will be on their asses!!

3. I also agree. I watch the Senate
and they literally make me ill congratulating each other and their staffs for all their hard work to get a housing bill -- when the housing bill stinks!

32. Just like they congratulate each other on the hard work they do
In terms of the campaign finance bill, and now with Senator Dodd overseeing the give away of our entire Treasury to help the bankers with their losses...

JE-ESH!

5. great post, dajoki! I'm amazed that this hasn't been more popular as a thread.
:(

Actually, I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

It just doesn't rate very high with "liberals".

The true "housing crisis" has been going on for decades for low-income people, but that doesn't get any rise from the liberals.. just not sexy enough, I guess. :(

Now, suddenly, it's all over everywhere.. but only for muddleclass people, and people like me can see just go suck eggs.

Thanks for bringing this up, and sharing your story! I know it's not easy!

I'm so very glad that this all turned out well for you...... I think part of it is that they know they can't easily sell these houses now, so they are more "motivated" to work with you and the other homeowners than they were a short time ago.

 :loveya:

6. Thank you Bobbie...
your kind words mean a lot to me. And you are so right on about them not being able to sell the houses that they are trying to take back from struggling homeowners, that is the ONLY thing that motivates them. Can't make a profit, well then, "maybe we can work something out". I know all too well!!

7. So, you got that impression, too?
This whole thing is so crazy.

I guess there would be some redemption if it caused people to understand what is happening to this once great nation.

But, I've given up hope even of that.

:(

8. That is why...
I keep bringing this up, so people will see what is going on and how those on the bottom are becoming more and more irrelevent to the powers that be. I guess I'm looking for another RFK and I thought we had one, but the media made sure it never came to fruition. Like you said, "not sexy enough"!! :loveya:

9. no one wants to really look at Congress
It is easier to bash Bush and hope he is the problem but he couldn't have done anything without the complicity of the US Congress. It is not enough to elect a new president, we need to focus on electing a Congress that will work for We the People and respect the Constitution.

11. You are so right, and also right that nobody wants to see this reality.
It's going to hit hard when they see it.

Or not... if they are just latte liberals anyway.

Meanwhile, so many of us suffer and die.

to disqualify themselves from consideration

True Democrats...never mind the DINOs and Dems Trolls...

Better yet...create a filter system so we know what we get come voting time....we need better Dems and the only way is to let them know what we want...

13. Congress voted itself irrelevant in 2006
Edited on Sat Apr-05-08 12:54 PM by Hydra
I was talking to a less informed Dem yesterday about Congress' inaction regarding Bushco's crimes. She can't believe there were no hearings, no hard questions, no impeachment.

I'm coming to believe that our party leaders are complicit in all of this- they had the chance to DESTROY the republican party FOREVER...and they let it slip away.

Inequality has in fact long been a bi-partisan affair.

Time to kick some.... out of... and get people together for direct action.

that is my point, both sides are as guilty as each other when it comes to poverty and homelessness. Its a shame what has happened to the Democratic party.

23. I remember
this was quite a few years back when Bill Clinton was in office.

That the rate of statewide food pantry usage was up each year by percentages in the teens.

I use to keep the original article that discussed this in my wallet. It was basically just a statistical description but it spoke volumes.

When things such as "health of the economy" are described and calculated people who reside in the "bottom" are eliminated from the equation. This proves all of the calculations wrong right from the start and it is also done purposefully and insidiously.

Quite frankly I'm tired of hearing about "the middle class", "consumer spending", "housing starts", and on and on as it is all framed by the concept on industrial-capital and serves to hide colossal banditry by the "haves."

Your post deserves more recognition.

24. Thank you very much...
I really appreciate you saying that it deserves more recognition, but what I appreciate even more is the fact that someone gets it. If you have been looking around here for awhile you probably noticed the rancor going on in the poverty and homeless threads. People have been bullied, attacked and personally degraded simply because they have chosen to take a stand on these very important issues.

These issues make people uncomfortable and cause some to lash out at others who have committed themselves to doing something about it. Maybe they don't understand it or maybe they think the poor and homeless can get out of their situation if they wanted to, which I completely disagree with, but I would love to see some civility when it comes to these issues. These problems must be discussed and every viewpoint should be heard, but I wish some people would just show a little compassion.

34. They truly earned their ratings...
and its so sad because I remember how happy I was when the Dems won control of both Houses, yes, its a very slim control, but they are still the majority. But you would never know that though by their actions, I can't even remember anymore how many times that I was disgusted by their votes or non votes.
