Has anyone seen the movie 'Silver City' with Chris Cooper?

If you haven't, check it out. It's really good. It came out in 2004, I missed it, somehow, just watched it yesterday. It is a very well written and acted commentary on how the political machine works. The subtle (sometimes not so subtle) parallels between the Bush family and the fictional Pilager (I kid you not) family make for some great viewing.

1. Yeah, great movie.
Chris Cooper is an awesome actor and he's playing Bush, no doubt.

2. He was hilarious.
I almost couldn't believe how perfect he was. Minus the evil, of course. Richard Dreyfus as Rove was great, also!

3. I recommend it highly - invite a few like minded friends and you
will be in for a really great time. I loved it. The parallels are hysterical and obvious but not mean spirited.

8. Indeed.
It was well done, not too heavy-handed. It could have been a liitle more mean spirited! ;)

4. I thought it was average...
Cooper as a Dubya-clone was quite funny, but he was only a small part of the story, which mainly revolved around the environmental/immigrant-smuggling scandal being investigated by the archetypal hard-boiled reporter down on his luck. Cooper's take on Captain Crotchsock was so entertaining that, at least for me, it was irritating when the main story took over and he was shoved to the background.

In a way, I almost think it would have been a better film without Cooper's character -- if the gubernatorial candidate had been a generic son of a conservative dynastic family and could therefore have been a fitting background character who wouldn't have upstaged the main storyline.

6. True.
At first I thought that was where they were headed and then it did get a little bogged down. Loved the whole take on the internet media, though.

9. it's also fun to listen to the DVD commentary
The filmmakers really rip into Georgie!

I heard that they were originally looking at Cooper for another role, but his wife let slip the fact that he would go around the house doing an impression of Bush, just to irk her -- so they decided to give him the Dickie Pilager role. (The only issue I have is that in the scene with his political mentor, he manages to stay on his mount ... GWB would have fallen off before the horse had taken its first step!)
