8. I loved it.
Brent Budowsky was great, too. Called her a gift to progressive radio or something like that.

4. That's what's so great about her
as well as what's so great about Randi!

9. Look at this judiciously in a balanced way.
How would we react if Rush Limbaugh talked about Hillary the way Randi did? I would object and say he was being sexist. That is because the terminology that Randi used applies primarily to women and is gender oriented. Even when it is used to insult institutions or a man, part of the impact is to imply that the institution or the man is feminine and therefore somehow bad or weak.

Applying the same standard to Randi that I would apply to Limbaugh, Randi's language was offensive. Sure, she wasn't on the air, but she was representing Air America according to Air America. I love Randi, but her choice of language was beyond the acceptable. This is not a free speech issue. This is a defamation issue. I would feel the same way if someone said something defamatory or that involved despicable racial epithets with regard to Obama. Neither of our candidates deserves that kind of treatment, especially not from a fellow Democrat.

There is a concept in equitable law known as clean hands. We Democrats need to have clean hands in our dealings with all of our candidates, i.e., we Democrats need to play fair with them if we want to be able to criticize Republicans and others who do not play fair. If Hillary and Obama and their supporters swiftboard each other now, how can we criticize McCain and his supporters for swiftboarding our candidate later?

Let's all set a higher tone in our discourse. It is fine to criticize a candidate's positions, presentation, or campaign strategy, but the sexist and racist epithets have to stop.

10. While on principle I agree over the use of language
I would not be asking for HIS head either

Hell, he's said things ON THE AIR, that are highly inappropriate and I have yet to see the right slap his hand

-------> points to Chelsea is a dog comment made on the air when the Clintons were in the WH, and Chelsea was what 12?

And to point this is about creeping fascism and the right of corporations to control your speech and other aspects of your life at all times

By the way, we might be seeing a pattern of going after critics of one of the two candidates. That should chill you.

And for the this is the way its always been done in media.. ok fine, perhaps, (Points at el Rushbo), that does not make it right

11. I did a lot of research on the issue of free speech and employment.
We don't have it. Not if our jobs are political in just about any respect. There may be something in Randi's contract on this. We need to pass laws that give employees free speech. At this time we don't have them. Still, defamation probably is not protected as free speech. The dog comment might or might not be considered defamation. Using certain sexist or racist language may be defamatory. It should be avoided. Air America is responsible for what Randi says on Air America's time. Randi should apologize big time when she returns to Air America.

13. You know slowly I am discovering that the America I took an oath to
is a fantom, a figment of your imagination, it doesn't exist, never has existed and probably will never exist

It is a sad day when one realizes all one believed in is bunk

Democracy my ass

free speech my ass

it is the golden rule, those who have the gold set the rules.

So sad

And the part that scares me is not me... but by nephews and nieces... as they will inherit an openly fascist imperial state.

12. It was predictable. Randi has been over-the-top in her attacks for a long time;
attacks aimed at many different people.

She got away with it.

When people keep getting away with attacks, they escalate.

Finally it gets to be too much, as happened with Randi.

14. Fuck that. (excuse my feeble attempt at humor)
But really, fuck the "higher tone." I'll go to PBS if I want high tone. Randi can say anything she wants. If I don't like it I can change the channel. I don't give a fuck what rush says. I don't listen. I don't care what any other radio personality says. If I don't like the tone, I won't listen.

I have been hearing a lot about how politically correct our progressive personalities should be, how we should be better than the other side. I just don't agree. Being a liberal means that I can take it or leave it. I don't have to impose my sensibilities on others.

PS: Your "clean hands" scenario has gotten us where we are today... stepped all over. We need to get down and dirty and fight back. The thing we don't need to swiftboat; is all we need is the truth and that hurts sometimes.

Peace

15. The secret of success is to fight hard and hit where you need to
but with facts, not with sexist or racial epithets.
