Does anyone really know why Randi was suspended ?
There are all sorts of post here and I heard what Malloy and Sam said as well as Elliot .

Does anyone know for certain who was behind this or is it all just speculation at this point ?

I hear is was Clinton or Johnson and this and that but I have yet to find a post that has the facts that I can find on DU .

3. Apparently she's the only stand-up comedian in Merka who uses bad
words and makes fun of politicians. At least, that's what the Anti-Randis would have us believe.

4. Last summer, Skinner made it clear that, at least on DU, we are not going to
call politicians, especially women, whores.

7. Randi called them FWs on DU? I thought she did that in her stand-up act.
Thanks for clarifying that for me. For a moment, I thought she was within her right to Free Speech in an entertainment venue. Now I know she was posting on DU when she said that.

13. DU pretty much tolerates almost everything
yet, as a political forum it realizes that there should be some limits, if one wants to keep some civility in a political debate.

Of course, I have stopped watching Bill Maher and Olbermann or anything on MSNBC because, once you just use words to attack people instead of describing why you are attacking them, you lose all credibility.

And this is true for any discussion. Once you move to use foul language and insults it shows a paucity of vocabulary and inability for a coherent thought process.

10. True. Of course most comedians don't have contracts with radio stations
to carry a show either.

25. No, as I've said repeatedly. But it would hardly be suprising for such a contract
to cover such incidents.

Contractual dispute is likely to be settled in court.

6. Such punishments are always negotiated.
Unless communication has broken down completely between Randi and the bigwigs, this was an agreed-upon outcome.

17. I know , this is probably just another thing we will never
Have the real truth about as with just about everything else . I hate speculation and I know other hosts said some things but these were their own hidden takes they can't quite come out and say what or who it was or what happened even if they knew and I get the feeling they either do and can't or won't say or they don't know either .

18. Until we know the content of the contract
and the specific clause she broke it is speculation.
I bet the lawyers are busy right now.

I caught Lisa Lampanelli show at a club last year,
she was just so insane, and she makes fun of everyone.

19. AAR owner is a Clinton supporter.
Good article here:

Randi Rhodes Suspended for . . . What!?!
http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/694929/randi_rhodes_suspended_for_what.html

(I was at that event, btw. It was a standup routine. Randi was just being Randi, in a way she's restrained herself from on the air.)

20. this is just my insane speculation
But if the Greens are Hillary supporters then how can many AAR voice the Hillary bashing and all seem to boost their support for Obama ?

I really have not listened to ARR other than what I catch on Xm for quite some time . Once they fired Malloy I heard Randi on Nova M a bit . It just seemed to turn into Hillary bashing after the holidays .

It was fine when it was all bush admin bashing and at first almost every liberal talk show host said any Dem candidate would make a good president until it was down to Hillary and Obama .

It would have been better if they kept their personal choices personal and focused the bashing on the repub's which they did until McCain was all that was left standing and all that is said about him is he will be another 4 years of bush .

24. I think she has been different since her "fall"
This is somewhat off topic since it isn't directly related to what she said or about her suspension by AAR. It is a more-general observation about Randi and a couple of followup questions.

I have never been a big fan of RR, mostly because I don't like her style of talk radio even when I agree with the host's positions, but I have been glad to have her voice out there bringing up topics I care about that few others will touch. (I do wish she would stop being so rude to some callers for no apparent reason, hanging up on them, and then attacking them on-air.) With the right topics and guests, she does a very good show. Other times, I start shouting at the radio and turn the show off. I get frustrated on a "big news day" to tune in hoping for some perspective on events only to discover Randi in some strange self-absorbed nearly-incoherent state.

A few weeks ago, I realized that I was rarely even checking in on her show, much less listening very long at a time. Maybe it was just me, burned out after Edwards suspended his campaign, and Randi had gone from mostly positive on Edwards to very positive on Obama. But she has always seemed rather likely to change her stated preferences within short periods of time. I suspected that might be part of her radio identity and a way to stir up listners and increase her audience; SOP for talk radio, political or sports.

Since I couldn't recall listening to Randi much since last fall, I concluded it was probably just another effect of "primary season", and did not think about it again until today when I was reminded of her "fall" last October.

I wonder if Randi might have suffered a concussion back then and be having lingering effects mentally. Even a mild concussion can make it difficult to stay focused, to deal with multiple tasks at one time, to focus and process visual information. More severe problems include loss of the ability to smell, problems with continuous speech, balance, or memory loss. There are now several drugs that often help with the symptoms from the trauma to the brain, but they might not be prescribed because the doctors and the patient are focused on the other injuries (e.g. broken bones, teeth).

Have any of you noticed any change in her shows the last six months? Has she discussed anything like this on her shows?

If you know Randi, does this make any sense? I don't want to invade her privacy or expose her medical records here, but if you personally know Randi (or someone else with head trauma), consider these possibilities and do whatever you feel appropriate as a friend.
