Here's what bugs me about Randi Rhodes' Suspension
The reason she was suspended was not for her comments about Hillary and Ferraro.

It was because she used the f-word.

Seriously - read AA's statement - they're angry because she used the f-word

What kind of kindergarteners do they think we are?

2. I tried to get through to it last night, but it took forever to load.
Edited on Fri Apr-04-08 05:26 PM by Radio_Lady
I think it was at www.airamericaradio.com or whatever that page defaults to...

The statement was up last night. I'll try to get it for you.

ON EDIT: It isn't where it was last night. Sorry...

7. Here...of course it says nothing like the OP presents...what a shock
http://www.airamerica.com/blog/2008/apr/03/statement-air-america-radio-chair-charlie-kireker-1]

"Air America encourages strong opinions about public affairs but does not condone such abusive, ad hominem language by our Hosts," said chair Charlie Kireker.

8. Thanks. There is also a Wikipedia message:
Suspension

Air America Radio suspended Randi Rhodes from the network on April 3, 2008 for making inappropriate comments about Hillary Clinton and Geraldine Ferraro while speaking at an Air America affiliate event in San Francisco, California. The length of the suspension has yet to be disclosed.

10. Well then, they'd better fire Rachel Maddow too.
I watched an appearance she did on Shoot the Messenger with Lizz Winstead, and Rachel said "fuck" several times.

But hey, I'm a grown up, and can take hearing the word "fuck." I can USE the word "fuck". And I don't give a flying fuck if Randi said it, or if Rachel said it.

What do they think we are, kindergartners?

3. Really? I thought stand-up comedians used the F-bomb regularly in
their acts. Is there a War on Stand-Up Comedy now being spear-headed by Air America?

25. No, it's not. Stand ups check the language requirements at their venue.
Really, can we get a grip? Working comics have language filters and a bombless version of their act on demand.

4.  AAR owner is a Clinton supporter.
Good article here:

Randi Rhodes Suspended for . . . What!?!
http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/694929/randi_r...

(I was at that event, btw. It was a standup routine. Randi was just being Randi, in a way she's restrained herself from on the air.)

9. Rinsd, this all sort of happened over the day Wednesday. Go here:
Hope this explains it. I asked the same question and will answer any of yours if you wish.

It is a long thread, but you can get the You Tube link to see what Randi called Hillary and Geraldine Ferraro at what was purported to be an AAR event in San Francisco.

$5 a head.
http://my.barackobama.com/page/event/detail/4r2cc

"Come join other Bay Area Obama supporters for an evening with Air America host Randi Rhodes!

She was quieter in her support earlier in the primary season, but this week Randi Rhodes has been on fire with her passion for Obama (and disappointment/anger with his opponent). Today (3/7), she spent nearly her whole show urging people to get to Pennsylvania or to call Pennsylvania on behalf of Senator Obama.

Let's show her some Bay Area love and have a chance to get together socially as well. Spend your afternoon phonebanking and then join us (in Obamawear of course) for a great evening. Doors open at 5:30 pm, event is at 6:00 pm."

22. Agree completely. I was a radio show host for about 12 years and never blurted that word.
Over the top. 35 years as a broadcaster. I got plenty mad at callers and my engineer(s) might have gently taken them off the air to avoid more friction, or if THEY swore but there was virtually no name calling.

23. In the end this will get her more attention
and that's what all the talkers want anyway. It's there business to make "noise" and be heard. So, this is a little noise. But a suspension is embarrassing to her company, IMO.

24. The F bomb is a measure of "language" for stand ups.
Even open mikers know that. It's not new.
