Any idea what this thing is?
Creature was found by Russian soldiers on Sakhalin shoreline. Sakhalin area is situated near to Japan, it’s the most eastern part of Russia, almost 5000 miles to East from Moscow (Russia is huge). People don’t know who is it.

According to the bones and teeth - it is not a fish. According to its skeleton - it’s not a crocodile or alligator. It has a skin with hair or fur.

It has been said that it was taken by Russian special services for in-depth studies, and we are lucky that people who encountered it first made those photos before it was brought away.

8. It's ugly, is what it is.
When I saw the first pic, I thought they had exhumed Ronnie Reagan for display and homage at the '08 Convention.

Damn, I would hate to find that thing in my swimming pool.

So you are probably spot on. I don't have a link to anything yet on it, but if I find one I will post it.

20. No, look at the teeth. That was no Orca.
Sure looks like it was something with a similar size & shape though, doesn't it?

22. The teeth are part of the reason I thought so.
Orcas (aka killer whales) are predators with bigger sharper teeth than most other whales. But I'll take another look. That was one of the first things that came up for googling orca skeleton.

23. Those look like broad, flat HERBIVORE teeth to me.
Some species of manatee, perhaps?

24. nope, those are sharp teeth; manatees have teeth like elephants; wrong location
Edited on Fri Apr-04-08 07:35 PM by JoeIsOneOfUs
There are orcas in the north Pacific (e.g., Alaska), no manatees there.

Manatees have rounder heads, broader jaws (google manatee skull), much smaller overall.

edit to add - here's some good photos

but did anyone read the comments after the story? Hell's bells, the comments scared the crap out of me. There are real "people" behind these comments. This creature is more evolved than they are.
