At least we know *'s angle for Iran war
British fear US commander is beating the drum for Iran strikes

British officials gave warning yesterday that America's commander in Iraq will declare that Iran is waging war against the US-backed Baghdad government.

A strong statement from General David Petraeus about Iran's intervention in Iraq could set the stage for a US attack on Iranian military facilities, according to a Whitehall assessment. In closely watched testimony in Washington next week, Gen Petraeus will state that the Iranian threat has risen as Tehran has supplied and directed attacks by militia fighters against the Iraqi state and its US allies.

The outbreak of Iraq's worst violence in 18 months last week with fighting in Basra and the daily bombardment of the Green Zone diplomatic enclave, demonstrated that although the Sunni Muslim insurgency is dramatically diminished, Shia forces remain in a strong position to destabilise the country.

"Petraeus is going to go very hard on Iran as the source of attacks on the American effort in Iraq," a British official said. "Iran is waging a war in Iraq. The idea that America can't fight a war on two fronts is wrong, there can be airstrikes and other moves," he said.

So, we know what we need to watch out for in the testimony next week. Please send this to your congressional representatives so that they know we are aware of this game. Make them ask the hard questions and focus on Iraq!!

5. Did the UK leave Basra, where the mayhem is happening now?
They were in southern Iraq before, right? Are there many UK left in Iraq?

2. SFRC already heard testimony that the role of Iran is exaggerated
Edited on Sat Apr-05-08 01:11 AM by JoeIsOneOfUs
I don't think Petraeus and Crocker will be able to say that without Biden, Kerry, Webb, Feingold, and Boxer, and possibly Lugar and Hagel, calling them on it.

edit to add - last year Biden said if they went after Iran without Congressional approval he'd push for impeachment. That and other reactions shut them up for a little while. Seems like the House (where it originates of course) is making more noises about impeachment this week too.

8. Instead of threatening to impeach IF he invades Iran
they should impeach to prevent him from invading Iran.

7. Connecting Dots - Shaping Up, Next War, Iran
.

The Vice President of the United States Of America, Mr. Richard Cheney visited countries in the region of the Middle East this past month. Among the announced countries he visited were Saudi Arabia, Israel, Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan.

Being an outsider, I am left to connect the dots. I feel free to speculate on some of the subjects Mr. Cheney may have discussed with leaders in the region of the Middle East.

Would it surprise anyone to learn that one subject Mr. Cheney discussed was the time table for an attack on the country of Iran? Does anyone doubt that Mr. Cheney intends to and will give the go ahead to launch an attack on Iran before the end of Summer 2008?

Given this scenario, what can we the people do? Congress is definitely _NOT_ going to step up.

How do we bring an end to this government's behavior that is not in the people's interest?

.
