Bob Barr is a lot of things. But 'moron' is not one of them.
He's actually a very smart guy. He's also pretty consistent in his views and positions ("Consistent" and "Dead-Ass Fucking Wrong" are not terms of mutual exclusivity.)

He has, like his Libertarian buddy, Ron Paul, been opposed to to The War™. He has, like all but the rubber stampers, been opposed to the erosion of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. He spoke out against PissyPantz' death penalty for The Great Writ.

In short, he's been right on a lot of significant issues.

I point this out only to say that he will have appeal. Mostly to people who ought to be voting for McLame but just can't go there.

I say "good".

In the model of Perot and Nader, Barr could be the electoral Man of the Year this cycle.

I'd be happy about that.

2. He has an ugly pig snout
And that is his worst electoral liability. Too bad for him. I really don't see him as "leading a movement" in the mode of Perot or Nader.

3. I can see him beaing a "Safe Harbor" candidate for disenchanted GOPers
It would make him, electorally, the same as a movement candidate .... which is to say ..... a spoiler.

8. Ok. If the media picks up on this and decides to hype him, yes
Who knows, Time Warner, NY Times, lame Maureen Dowd might just give Barr some free media. They made time for this silly Mayor Bloomberg / Unity candidacy.

5. I think the term you're looking for is...
He isn't a fake.

Perot was in it for himself. Nader apparently the same as Perot.

Barr is sickened by what he's seen, maybe I don't care for some of his stances but compared to the rest of the center-right he's a shining light as is Ron Paul.

The forum (forgot the event) where he handed the floor over to Gore and Gore lit into Bushco for pissing on the constitution places him in good stance with me. I can disagree with his leaning but not his patriotism.

6. Excellent post. You nailed it
I know a lot of wingers who would vote for a Bob Barr type of candidate. McLame is simply not conservative enough to them, even though McLame has been coming across as the second coming of Dubya.

or is this a hypothetical? I always kind of admired Bob Barr, too.

9. I have a question (raises hand)
Since when are GOPers right on ANY issue??

Isn't this the reason our country is such a mess, because people thought they were right????

13. There are GOPers who oppose the war.
They would be right on that one.

There are GOPers who oppose the erosion of the Bill of Rights. They would be right on that.

Etc.

15. Their opposition to anything is for their own aggrandizement
and to enhance their own political image. If they were effective in their "opposition", we would not be where we are today.

Bob Barr is a toadie. He doesn't belong in the Political arena any longer. He only speaks for a small minority who want us to think that it's OK to be a GOPer or think like one.

18. Hey, I'm not defending the guy ..... I'm just saying he may run and if he does he could be .....
.... like Perot or Nader.

The rest of what you're saying is more appropriate to say to those who stand up for the guy, dontcha think.

10. I wouldn't say "a lot".
Other than being a strict constitutionalist he's pretty much wrong on everything.

But if he can get the conservatives to eat each other more power to him.

17. He most certainly isn't consistant
He is opposed to abortion but paid for a mistress to get one. He fought to protect marriage but is on his third marriage. That isn't consistent.
