Bush thanks Scots for bagpipes and golf.
By Murdo MacLeod
US PRESIDENT George Bush last night praised Scots for making an "indelible mark" on American culture, thanking the nation for giving the US bagpipes and golf.
Speaking from Zagred in Croatia, Bush praised Americans of Scottish descent for their hard work, faith and values as hundreds of Scots paraded through New York City in the annual Tartan Day parade.

Bush said: "On National Tartan Day, we celebrate the spirit and character of Scottish Americans and recognise their many contributions to our culture and our way of life.

"Scotland and the US have long shared ties of family and friendship, and many of our country's most cherished customs and ideals first grew to maturity on Scotland's soil.

"From the sounds of bagpipes to the great sport of golf, the Scots have also left an indelible mark on American culture."

I'm speechless. This is probably the first time in 7 years that he opened his mouth and the truth came out. I'm SURE he like golf. ASSHOLE!

7. Yup
Much of Scotish culture comes from invading Gaels from Ireland, including bagpipes.

13. And the Irish gave the pipes to the Scots as a joke, and the Scots haven't caught on yet.
Or so I was told.

6. Something fairly gross or some people think so, though I've never tried it.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haggis

And surprisingly I just learned according to wikipedia that it too may be Roman in origin, but it's always mostly perceived to be associated with Scotland.

11. Essentially a sausage
Traditionally, a sheep's stomach casing, filled with chopped sheep's sweetmeats, liver, lungs, etc, often with oatmeal filler, seasoned with pepper and boiled. Served with mash potatoes and turnips and all the whiskey you can hold down.

It isn't bad if you don't know the details.

8. It's not like Scotland did anything else to further civilization
Such as literature (Robert Burns, Robert Lewis Stevenson, Walter Scott) or science (John Logie Baird, inventor of the television; James Watt, inventor of the steam engine; Sir Alexander Fleming, discoverer of antibiotics) or even banking (the Bank of England was founded by William Paterson, a Scotsman, in 1694.)

No. Our White House Benchwarmer recognizes a game that is almost a sport, and a weapon of war (under British law. Look it up if you don't believe me.) I'm amazed he said nothing about whiskey but then, he has long been silent about his continuing love affair with anything alcoholic.

My apologies to all bagpipes for associating them with Babs.
