No more "cold dead hands" jokes, please...
...isn't there a better Charlton Heston joke out there today?

Like maybe him going up to Heaven and realizing that it was Earth all along?

"Damn yooooooou!"

6. The man did support Civil Rights Movement
We on the left seem to forget the whole man and the entire lifetime in favor of one statement he made. Not very progressive of us.

progressive values in terms of his civil rights activities and a misguided sense of conservatism in step with Reagan. I remember, though, how I cringed at Bowling for Columbine and Moore's over-the-top sad "outing" of Heston, who was the consummate gentleman-- at the same time I cringed at how Heston had turned so "right-ward." (Yet, I still admire Michael Moore, as I admire the entirety of his and others' contributions, as I still can for Heston).

My sadness for his family.... What a difficult several years they have had. Be at peace, "movie Moses."

11. It's more than one statement
He became a Republican in the 70s and was no longer a friend to the Civil Rights movement. For the last 35 - 40 years of his life he was an ass. He opposed abortion rights and affirmative action. But his words and actions following Columbine were the most repulsive thing he did, IMO.

such a 180 degree turn. With Reagan, one can assume opportunism. But, why previously "progressive" thinking people, like Heston? He, after all would have lived through McArthyism and all the other terrible periods of "conservative extremism..." I would really like to understand....
