Offensive Words.
I suggested on another thread dealing with that scandalous and dangerous Randi Rhodes that maybe DU should start a forum for the easily offended DU:FC (FC for "fainting couch")

But, then I hear that Obama also used an offensive word.

Lordy! Such use of words must be stopped.

I would like to suggest that everyone post words that we are no longer allowed to use in reply to this thread, so as not to offend anyone.

I would also like everyone to write their congressman, so we can limit language to those who qualify and perhaps require some kind of licensing for speaking.

3. Well there are two words that obviously we should never mention again
the F Bomb and of course the W bomb...

Damn all those combos with media and political are gone obviously

Oh and yes, we should reserve faux outrage when it is politically convenient.

Though I am all for creating the PC forum, really

Why can't we agree that one of the costs of enjoying freedom of speech for ourselves is having to sometimes tolerate tasteless or offensive speech from others. :eyes:

And I and others have the right to say it was shitty. And AAR has all the right to punish her however they see fit. Their punishment of her is not a "free speech" issue as many like to claim.

12. Randi Rhodes = Michael Richards...
they're both free to say whatever they want. They're also both free to suffer the consequences of their speech.

You might think it's OK for a progressive radio host to hold the opinion that certain women are "fucking whores". Personally, I can't see how any liberal, who supports women's rights, can think that's acceptable.

There's a time and a place for fucking coarse language. Using it to denigrate half the population isn't it.

18. Actually HE\ SHE HAS a point and it has precious little
with matriarchy vs patriarchy issues, but all to do with faux outrage

Almost all the people screaming in outrage right now have been strangely silent when the same term was used against Secretary Rice... not only part of the oppressed feminine side of humanity, but a member of an oppressed minority in this country.

The timing of the outrage and why (aka what sacred cow got gored) speaks volumes as to how faux this is.

Oh and by the way... I don't expect you (or any of the critiques screaming so loudly) to get it. But this is part of a pattern that started with Donajue and right now... what we have seen is that group think has expanded... oh and see that gun.. it is firmly aimed inside the circle, go ahead and fire.

19. The "faux outrage" was relating to her being punished.
And I, as well as many others here, would be just as sickened at the choice of words even about Condoleezza Rice. As much as I'd grit my teeth in standing up about it, I would not defend the use of that terminology.

21. Been used here for the last five or six years
and I have yet to hear people scream about it. (well rather read it)

Do a goggle search

Condi Rice has been properly demonized, and even been called a whore.

So has "man Coulter."

And the twins (as well as Chelsea when she was a teen)

Did I mention Bush's wife?

This is not about RR, but about Senator Clinton.

I've said it in other threads... the choices for November are now crystal clear, thanks to the group think exhibited by different groups

Fascist (for more wars McCain), Fascist Light (Yes Senator Clinton) or Corporatist.. lovely choices indeed.

The country is truly fucked, pardon my french...

And RR is part of a long line of removing voices from the air that are critical to the Powers that Be...

And given HOW this HIT was done... the techniques are eerily similar to what CIA used to do in Latin America (still does) starting with 1956 Guatemala.

Sorry if a little knowledge allows me to see this....

And why I now KNOW nothing will truly change come November. BUT given how vicious this campaign is, and the scorched earth tactics, well I have concluded McCain is extremely happy... he's have no problem getting the WH, even without having to steal it... And the people who have been so short sighted about this and created this civil war in the democratic party will never blame themselves for this.

But this incident and the faux outrage, is a symptom of the scorched earth tactics.

So until I see people consistently being outraged over calling Condy Rice a whore... on this site, sorry if I don't buy the faux outrage.

And I think we are done... I will not "convince you" and quite honestly, you will not convince me.

Though one last thing... though I don't approve of the language (even if used in a comedy bit off the air), I know that speech can be ugly at times. That is the cost I am willing to pay. Moreover, I don't attend shows where that language is used, and if present, I'd have exercised my right to stand up, leave the venue, and even demand my money back. But... I'd not be demanding for a suspension or as some have done here, outright firing. And that is what horrifies me.

...what a question.

Do I remember an episode of The Greatest News Program Ever!?

What kind of a question is that?

http://www.wikiality.com/The_Colbert_Report/Episodes/EpGuide/Episode_314">Of course I remember...it was episode 314, recorded September 26, 2007...Stephen was talking about how he lost the Emmy to Tony Bennett, but that he wasn't as offended as he was when he lost to Barry Manilow...Stephen then showed America (and His Heroes) why...

A replay of Tony Bennett's Emmy speech showed that he thanked the sponsor of his show, Target, and this pleased Stephen immensely.

In fact, Stephen showed America (and His Heroes) that he also loves Target by showing a picture of him with his shirt off.
