Strategist: Rice eyeing VP spot on ticket
WASHINGTON, April 6 (UPI) -- U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has exhibited interest in becoming John McCain's vice presidential running mate, a Republican strategist says.

Dan Senor revealed during Sunday's edition of ABC's "This Week with George Stephanopoulos" that Rice has been seeking support to be considered for the No. 2 spot on the Republican ticket this fall.

"Condi Rice has been actively, actually in recent weeks, campaigning for this," Senor said.

The party strategist said Rice could represent an ideal vice presidential candidate when paired with the Arizona senator, who is the presumptive Republican presidential nominee.

Among the Republicans polled by Gallup, she came in 3rd on the list as most-favored VP for McCain (Huckabee was first, Romney second).

she really will have a difficult time with that and I remember Donald Trump talking about her on Letterman or Leno where he said all she does is fly in somewhere and fly out with nothing getting done. Says he would have fired her a long time ago.

With CondorLizard on the McCain ticket the connection to Booooosh and his war that almost everybody hates will be even tighter. Better yet, the haters won't have anyplace to go so they'll stay home; since no matter whether they vote for the Rep or Dem ticket they'd have to vote for a woman and/or an African-American. And Condi's hideously bungled foreign policy is a big, fat target.

13. I find this quite scary
I envision a repuke planned scenario where the Dem front runner is eliminated RFK style, and then the #2 Dem, who consistently polls as easier to beat in the GE, jumps in the race. McCrazy with the first black female in the VP spot, then wins the GE. He then retires for health reasons at the end of his 1st term, or beginning of 2nd term.

I would not put it past the present junta in the WH.

I hate it when I can think as low as repukes. The "tell" will be what we hear from the white supremacists Limbaugh, O'Reilly and Hannity in the coming months.

24. Um... be careful what you wish for.
This one is NOT a good idea. It would throw a bone to all those moderate GOPers who fancy themselves ready to vote for a candidate of color, and they'd probably prefer to stay on the reservation rather than bolt for Obama.

This would be VERY bad. VERY bad. And worse if they won. Especially if you consider mccain is 152-thousand years old and may not last through the term. Then we'd be stuck with her. And the utterly MARVELOUS, EXEMPLARY job she's done everywhere else so far. :sarcasm:

18. Could be a big problem
She would allow the McCain ticket to appeal to women voters and neutralize AA voters (if Obama is nominee) or appeal to AA voters and neutralize women voters (if Clinton is nominee). Plus she adds to McCains security credential, brings a reputation for brains, and will captivate the press with her fashion and style, and has as much charisma as McCain and would reinforce his message of support for the current administration's policies. Whether she would be helpful to a McCain ticket depends on how the press would treat her.

needless to say - they don't like the idea very much.

According to random posts:

Condi is pro-choice, anti-Israel, her roommate is a liberal and female - so now they are pondering if she's gay, too close to Bush to capture Democrat cross-overs (they actually believe there will be some of those),etc. Still the most pathetic people on earth but it helps to visit occasionally to really appreciate DU.

That place is awful; in a single thread I saw sexist attacks, homophobic rumor-mongering, one blatant racist calling the entire black race "morally inferior" because of unmarried mothers, and yes, LOTS of "she is pro-choice" lying. One Freeper in particular kept citing links to show that Condi is on the same anti-choice page as Bush, and the rest of the mob shouted him down.

Then I took a shower.

44. This narrows our choices for running mates considerably
If McCain has a woman on the ticket, WE have to have a woman on the ticket. Otherwise, some fence-sitting women would vote for McCain just because (ugh) Condi's on the ticket with him.

We would then need a woman with "executive experience" to counter our nominee's lack of it. Whether we decide on Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama, we're still looking at running a senator.

We have two choices here. Either one would be fine. We could run either Kathleen Sebelius, governor of Kansas, or Christine Gregoire, governor of Washington State.

Picking Condi would be the worst mistake McCain could ever make. We'd exploit it by pointing out that Condi was the National Security Advisor who managed to blow it out her ass over the biggest breach of national security that's ever been.

50. You forgot someone
If Obama's the nominee vs. McCain-Rice, he wouldn't need a female governor. He could also consider the female junior senator from NY as a running mate. This has already been suggested in other contexts.

51. It has been...
And you're right, IF you could convince Hillary and Barack to run as a team (with either one in the top spot), you'd have a very strong ticket. BUT! Would they do it? No idea. Probably not.

Now let's go at it from another direction: What if the convention goes to a second ballot and Hillary gets the nod? Assuming Obama wouldn't run as Hillary's VP, let's try a male governor from a Western state. Specifically, Montana. A lot of non-religiously-insane Republicans would vote for a ticket with Brian Schweitzer on it because he's already proven he can cut taxes and still balance a budget, which is a Repuke holy grail. Could he do it nationally? Well...if he were to jettison a few of the Repukes' favorite things, like the war and preferential treatment of capital gains, he might be able to pull it off.
