Cokie Roberts "chortling" constantly while Katrina Van den Huevel
was trying to talk. This has been bothering me all day. ABC's This Week has one liberal against two cons and I don't know Cokie's politics, but she sure let it show with her incessant chortling while Katrina was speaking. It was highly ignorant and was really pissing me off to no end. Anyone else notice it also?

1. There was some discussion here today...
...about that very topic. Basically, in my opionion Cokie Roberts is a tool. Katrina Van den Huevel has forgotten more than Cokie ever knew.

8. Don't you mean MONICA Crowley? Candy Crowley is on CNN
and seems to handle herself in a very professional manner.

However, I do agree about Cokie Roberts and her behavior this morning was obvious and rude - bizarre, actually. TOOL doesn't even begin to describe it.

My question is...WHY? I wonder WHO is paying her to be such a shill and HOW MUCH?? It's beneath the dignity of any true journalist, and especially after this morning's episode, AFAIC she's no journalist.

21. I'm with you on Candy Crowley
She showed her hand many times - I remember in 2004 she scrunched her face up in disgust when she was talking about Democratic candidates.

Can't say I watch anything she's on anymore and if she shows up, I turn it off.

22. Cokie has become a republicon propaganda puppet
Once upon a time I respected her. But no more.

She has morphed into a homelander propaganda tool -- and it shows. Big time,

She has lost all cred.

3. Not a word I use a lot, but . . . I think I hate Cokie Roberts.
She's one of those self-appointed know-it-alls who are the worst examples of media elites speaking for us and I've absolutely never ever have heard her say anything the slightest bit original or interesting. She's a pseudo-intellectual bore!

As with Pat Buchanan, I change the channel or turn it off if I see or hear her.

28. I do admireher mother, Lindy Boggs. She spoke at my stepson's graduation
from Tulane several years ago. A delightful, intelligent woman, really stunning and in her 80s!

Cokie did say something funny when I heard her speak once: she said her mother had been residing in the French Quarter for a few years before she was asked to be Ambassador to the Vatican. It was probably because, Cokie said drily, her mother was accustomed to dealing with men in skirts...

Pretty funny, even if you don't care for her political inanities...

Katrina Van den Heuvel.

It's not really a fair fight. Van den Heuvel is a full smorgasboard and Cokie is just whipped cream .

Cokie is part of Olde Washington establishment -- the group that really runs the town. Journalists and politicians come and go, but the Olde Crowde rules and scoffs.

16. I would describe it like so....
she would sort of chuckle and mumble a response that was audible to the audience as Katrina started to get a word in. And it wasn't just for a moment, it was for several seconds as though she wanted everyone to know she was there in the background and didn't agree with Katrina, only wasn't respectful enough of her to wait her turn to speak.

14. Cokie is a reliable reporter
We can rely on her to talk about the horse race and not the issues.
We can rely on her to read a couple of headlines and then act like this is her inside information.
We can rely on her to respond to a liar by saying "it's a he-said she-said situation."
We can rely on her to pat herself on the back.

Interesting to compare how she has evolved over the decades compared to her NPR colleague Daniel Shorr.

15. She and her husband Steve have always struck me as self-satisfied elitists
Her segments on Morning Edition are among the reasons I stopped listening to NPR. So was Steve's guest hosting of the Diane Rheam show in the '90s. He came across to me as a narcissistic jerk...he never tired of blathering on and on about his oh-so charmed life.

25. Remember the "charm offensive?"
Her segments on Morning Edition are among the reasons I stopped listening to NPR.

Eight years ago during Campaign2000, Cokie was telling us about Bush's "charm offensive"--He was going to go to DC and get things done because he was "charming, oh so charming!" And he liked to give nicknames.

I stopped listening to NPR after that...

(commenting on the upcoming hearing with Petraeus & Crocker):

"I'm sure they don't plan on ATTACKING Gen. Petraeus like they did the last time , since it ended up backfiring on them!" :eyes:

23. her brother is a big time lobbyist - Patton Boggs LLP
Patton Boggs LLP is a law firm and lobby shop associated with Qorvis Communications and specialized in international and trade law with over 200 international clients from over 70 countries. In addition to their Washington, D.C. headquarters, they maintain offices in New York City, Newark, Anchorage, Dallas, Denver, Northern Virginia, and Doha, Qatar.

According to its website, the firm was founded in 1962 by James R. Patton, Jr and joined soon after by George Blow and then Thomas Hale Boggs, Jr. Again according to the website, it has "participated in the formation of every major multilateral trade agreement considered by Congress."<1> Notable associates have included John Breaux, former Democratic U.S. Senator and Representative from Louisiana, and Benjamin Ginsberg, former national counsel to the Bush-Cheney presidential campaign and the Republican National Committee, National Republican Senatorial Committee and National Republican Congressional Committee.

...

According to the Haitian newspaper "Le Nouvelliste"<3> Patton Boggs was hired in 2007 by the Vicini family, one of the most influential and wealthiest families in the Dominican Republic, to prevent the screening of the documentary The Price of Sugar which depicts the living conditions of Haitian immigrant workers on the family's sugar plantations as well as death threats against Christopher Hartley, a Catholic priest working on behalf of the Haitian immigrants.

26. Cokie Roberts belongs to the Beltway Party.
She's part of that small group of Beltway parasites who spend their lives sucking up to the popular kids. Her politics are meaningless, because she hasn't really got any-- or at least, she isn't guided by them. She's guided by her desire to please her benefactors.
