Radio host Ed Schultz: 'I'm sorry ... John McCain is a warmonger'
Source: USA Today

"I'm sorry, John, the label sticks. John McCain is a warmonger," liberal radio host Ed Schultz said a few minutes ago on CNN's American Morning.

Schultz called McCain a "warmonger" on Friday as he was warming up the audience at a fundraiser for the North Dakota Democratic Party in Grand Forks. Sen. Barack Obama, who later addressed the audience, was not in the hall when Schultz made his remark.

On Saturday, McCain called on Obama to condemn Schultz's words. The Democrat's campaign issued a statement saying that "John McCain is not a warmonger and should not be described as such. He's a supporter of a war that Senator Obama believes should have never been authorized and never been waged."

Sunday, McCain said the matter was settled by the Obama campaign's statement.

But this morning, Schultz showed he's not going to apologize or tone down his words.

"Labeling a candidate is not being disrespectful," Schultz told CNN host John Roberts. McCain's policies, Schultz said, "fit the description, there's no question about that. ... John McCain has no end game in Iraq. ... (He) is saber rattling with Iran. ... The man is a warmonger."

Thumbs up for Schultz. McCain is a warmonger.

If it looks like a duck; walks like a duck; quacks like a duck . . .

1. ...then it's probably time for McCain to see a dermatologist, a physical therapist, and a shrink.
Quack, quack. :)

2. Thanks Robbien! I know alot of DUers aren't happy with
Ed, and although he may not be as far left on some things as we'd like, he calls them like he sees them. Ed Schultz unapologetically hit the nail on the head, and I'm glad he has the spine not to back down.

3. TEN things you should know about John McCain (from MoveOn.org):
1. John McCain voted against establishing a national holiday in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Now he says his position has "evolved," yet he's continued to oppose key civil rights laws. 1

2. According to Bloomberg News, McCain is more hawkish than Bush on Iraq, Russia and China. Conservative columnist Pat Buchanan says McCain "will make Cheney look like Gandhi." 2

3. His reputation is built on his opposition to torture, but McCain voted against a bill to ban waterboarding, and then applauded President Bush for vetoing that ban. 3

4. McCain opposes a woman's right to choose. He said, "I do not support Roe versus Wade. It should be overturned." 4

5. The Children's Defense Fund rated McCain as the worst senator in Congress for children. He voted against the children's health care bill last year, then defended Bush's veto of the bill. 5

6. He's one of the richest people in a Senate filled with millionaires. The Associated Press reports he and his wife own at least eight homes! Yet McCain says the solution to the housing crisis is for people facing foreclosure to get a "second job" and skip their vacations. 6

7. Many of McCain's fellow Republican senators say he's too reckless to be commander in chief. One Republican senator said: "The thought of his being president sends a cold chill down my spine. He's erratic. He's hotheaded. He loses his temper and he worries me." 7

8. McCain talks a lot about taking on special interests, but his campaign manager and top advisers are actually lobbyists. The government watchdog group Public Citizen says McCain has 59 lobbyists raising money for his campaign, more than any of the other presidential candidates. 8

9. McCain has sought closer ties to the extreme religious right in recent years. The pastor McCain calls his "spiritual guide," Rod Parsley, believes America's founding mission is to destroy Islam, which he calls a "false religion." McCain sought the political support of right-wing preacher John Hagee, who believes Hurricane Katrina was God's punishment for gay rights and called the Catholic Church "the Antichrist" and a "false cult." 9

10. He positions himself as pro-environment, but he scored a 0—yes, zero—from the League of Conservation Voters last year. 10

John McCain is not who the Washington press corps make him out to be. Please help get the word out—forward this email to your personal network. And if you want us to keep you posted on MoveOn's work to get the truth out about John McCain, sign up here:

"Ordinary" Americans love warmongers.

They love to see furriners get killed.

They love to see things blow up -- as long as they're in other countries.

They love a good fight -- as long as other people's kids get sent off to fight.

They don't mind death and destruction -- as long as they don't have to see the flag-draped caskets come home.

Americans love war as long as they aren't asked to sacrifice.

You can't go wrong underestimating the intelligence of the American public and you can't go wrong telling them you're going to kick the shit out of some defenseless foreign country.

This will not hurt McCain.

Two ways to stop the war tomorrow. (1) Institute a universal draft -- no deferments unless you're on your deathbed. (2) Sign an executive order that everyone will have an extra $100/week withheld from every paycheck to pay for the war.

11. I heard the first hour of Big Eddie's show today....
and he is in full throttle mode.

He has nothing to apologize for,
heck, I'm glad someone out there has the
testicles to say what we're all thinking...

And let's not allow the press, or the opposition
to nail Ed as an "Obama surrogate.."

he's not speaking for the campaign,
but using his bully pulpit to speak the truth.

I hope like heck they don't silence him....

You go Ed!

13. Why are people apologizing for stating their opinions, and saying the truth?
"I'm sorry" are two very important words.

Cheapening them in this way does none of us any favors.

I wish people would just say their opinion outright.
