McCain Supporter's Comment About Obama: "You Can Keep Your Tiger Woods"
Edited on Tue Apr-08-08 07:55 PM by Hissyspit
David Bellavia of "Vets for Freedom" at the pro-war rally attended by Sen. John McCain in D.C. today, in introducing Sen. McCain, said "you can keep your Tiger Woods, we'll take Sen. McCain."

Sen. Lindsey Graham tried to blow it over saying in follow-up that he would gladly abandon McCain for a round of golf with Woods.

Dr. Michael Dyson on Olbermann tonight: "I guess one multi-racial black-skinned man is like another."

Everyone on the Hardball panel blew it off. But then why did LINDSEY GRAHAM feel the need to try to disarm the remark? How else are you supposed to read the comment? Why would you want to "keep your Tiger Woods?" Tiger Woods is the greatest in history at what he does! It sure seemed racial to me. I can't seem to figure out how it wasn't intended to be racial/racist.

1. i heard the guy say it on teevee...it kinda spun my head around...
the only connection i could make between woods & obama was color....cause if you call obama 'tiger woods' i would consider that the ultimate compliment.

6. I don't know how you can read it any other way, but everyone on Hardball blew it off.
Dana Milbank played up that footage like that can come back to bite you later.

2. Wish Keith had not mispronounced his name
It is not pronounced "Bo-LOV-ee-uh", but "Bell-uh-VEE-uh". I know because a friend of mine has interviewed him on numerous occasions.

Go ahead, google it.

You know you want to.

5. We are going to have to fasten
our seatbelts.
It is going to get very bad but I think we have come far enough that people who say such things will be seen as ignorant - and worse.
I hope Bellavia and Dyson and those of their ilk are becoming anachronisms.
What total losers - and now the whole world knows.

7. Definitely racial
No question.

Vets for freedom? When are these morons going to realize that supporting the fascist right wing political party who for some reason call themselves "conservatives" is synonymous with being AGAINST freedom?

8. If that is the tactics that they plan on using against Obama
he is going to win for sure. America is changing and those bigots are being left behind in the dust. Shame on the Hardball panel. These things need to be called out into the open as soon as they happen. It is the only way to cure the racism we still experience.

10. It was an intentionally racially bigoted remark. It may have been veiled, but it was ........
.... what it sounded like.

McCain has now had this happen twice.

I call that a pattern

I call McCain a bigot.

11. What really ticked me off in that intro was: "Here's the real audacity
of hope." I mean really???? Blatant theft. I'll bet Tiger didn't appreciate it either. Gawd, how I hate repubs...

12. I'd take it as a compliment personally - being compared to the best is not a bad thing
Tiger is the best golfer ever (at least I think so). If people start thinking along those lines with Obama, then that only helps him.

21. I have a confession about Tiger Woods...
I typically only watch golf on TV when two conditions are met:

1) Tiger Woods is playing (and is in contention to win)
2) It's in high-definition.

23. One time my son called from NJ and I told him I had to call him back
because Tiger was walking up to the 18th hole. I cannot miss that crowd giving him his due with the applause. Son told everyone I threw him over for Tiger and it's a family joke now. Don't call Mom if Tiger is playing...

14. Bellavia clearly isn't terribly bright. He's about as articulate as my brother-in-law.
Barbara Jordan he's not. Why he was chosen to introduce anyone, is the question.

17. Quote corrections: "You can have your Tiger Woods, we've got Sen. McCain"
"Ladies and gentleman, this is the real audacit of hope, Sen. McCain."

Michael Eric Dyson: "I guess one multi-racial black man is interchangable with another. Republicans ... have a huge problem with black people."

19. It's an insult to Tiger Woods to compare him to Obama. Woods is a real champion.
He's the #1 golfer in the world who actually dominates the MAJORS. He hasn't taken the number one spot by gaming the system and going around winning obscure tournaments in empty states.

22. Nice way to deflect for McCain & the GOP- but the real question is:
If you found out that Tiger likes lattes, would you still think so highly of him?

;)

But seriously-gaming the system? I dont recall Hillary or supporters having any trouble with the rules of the game at the outset.

In typical DLC fashion, her political strategy failed- get over it.
